34-year-old Robert Souza was driving a PT Cruiser in the far right lane of I-95 at about 9:00 p.m., when he careened across all of the lanes and entered the median. The vehicle then collided with a tree, overturned, and caught fire. Thanks to the help of a state trooper and some good Samaritans, Souza, his 24-year-old girlfriend Lindsey Clark, and her 5-year-old daughter Savannah Clunan were all pulled from the wreckage, though Souza and Lindsey are in critical condition and Savannah sustained a skull fracture but is expected to survive. Unfortunately, one occupant could not be rescued.

On Monday, Stephen McGouldrick, 55, slid on ice and lost control of his SUV on an icy road and rolled the vehicle down an embankment into 2 1/2 feet of water, landing upside-down and sumberging a 3-month-old infant girl in the back seat. Passerby Leo Moody, of Kingman, crawled into the SUV and freed the baby by using a knife to cut the straps of her car seat. The baby girl was not breathing and unresponsive when she was pulled free, and another passer-by, Wade Shorey, initiated CPR and successfully resuscitated her.
