Delaware County authorities are searching for a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Collingdale and then fled the scene.

Collingdale police say the victim, 58-year-old Timothy McCaughan, was in the intersection of Spruce Street and Clifton Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Friday when he was struck by an SUV.

According to police, a witness saw the driver stop, get out of the vehicle, make a comment, then get back into the SUV and speed off, heading south on Clifton Avenue.

The victim was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police are seeking the public's help in identifying the driver in a hit-and-run crash late Thursday that left a man clinging to life.

The victim, a 53-year-old man, was crossing Domino Lane near Harmon Road in Upper Roxborough when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, police said. He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he remained in extremely critical condition last night.

Police say a suspected drunk driver lost control of his mini-van near 11th and West Cumberland Street and crashed into a car going through the intersection. It happened at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday. The vehicle then careened off that car and then came to a halt when his van smashed into two police cars that were stopped nearby. One 22nd District police officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment of minor non-life threatening injuries. He is expected to be released.

A big rig flipped off a Bucks County highway this morning causing a backup for hours and state police say it was all caused when an intoxicated driver pulled over to the side of the road. A tractor-trailer collided with a stopped minivan along the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 just past the Woodhaven Road (Route 63) Exit in Bensalem Township, Pa. around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.

An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday on an elderly pedestrian struck and killed by a snowplow in Pennsylvania. Emergency crews were called to a street in Reading shortly before 11:30 a.m. Monday. The 71-year-old victim, later identified as Gilbert Birdsey, was rushed to Reading hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. Police and the forensic unit of the Berks County district attorney’s office are investigating. Public works officials and the mayor’s office have not commented on the accident.

A jack-knifed tractor trailer along I-95 snarled traffic in Philadelphia early Monday morning.

The big rig jack-knifed at about 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near the Washington Avenue exit.

Shortly after the accident, one lane of traffic was able to squeeze by, but crews shutdown the lanes entirely around 6 a.m. to clean-up the accident scene. All lanes were re-opened at about 6:30 a.m.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.

State police say a 48-year-old man has died after his kayak overturned in the icy waters of the Susquehanna River in central Pennsylvania.

Troopers from the Punxsutawney barracks say the victim is Edward Heberling Jr., of Westover.

Heberling was kayaking with a relative in Burnside Township, Clearfield County, when his craft capsized, dumping him into the fast-moving water.

The river was partially covered by ice, so crews could not find Heberling in the area where he went into the water about 11 a.m. Saturday.

Police say three people were injured in a two vehicle crash in the city's Tioga section early Friday morning.

The accident happened around 2:45 a.m. at the intersection of Hunting Park and Germantown Avenues.

One car broad sided another car, according to police.

There were three people involved in the crash and they were all injured.

They were taken to the hospital with various injuries and are listed in stable condition.

Police are investigating.

Police say ice on the roadway was a factor in an accident that had Route 41 in Chester County closed for about two hours Friday.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. at the intersection of Route 41 and Highland Road in Atglen.

Police say it started as a two-vehicle crash involving Ford Explorer and a Toyota Tacoma.

The driver of a tractor-trailer tried to avoid the accident scene, lost control and overturned.

The tractor-trailer driver suffered a cut to his head.

The road was reopened around 8:00 a.m.

Several sorority sisters from the University of Delaware were injured when a bus taking about 40 people to a party during homecoming week overturned in a crash with a tractor trailer, authorities said.

The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. Thursday at an intersection in Bear, south of Wilmington, when a tractor trailer ran a red light and hit the bus as it made a left turn, Delaware State Police said. The truck driver, Roberto Figueroa-Gomez, 26, of Miami was issued a summons for failing to stop at a red light, police said.
