A 17-year-old Danville boy was killed in a solo car crash on state Highway 24 in Lafayette Thrusday morning, a fire captain said.

The crash occurred just after 11 a.m. on eastbound Highway 24 near the Pleasant Hill Road exit in Lafayette.

A major road in San Jose fully re-opened this morning after police wrapped up their investigation of a fatal accident.

A man was hit and killed as he walked near the intersection of Almaden Expressway and Foxworthy Avenue around 9 last night. One lane of the expressway was closed most of the night. Police say the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with them.

BART service was stopped along the Fremont line this morning for several hours after a man was hit and killed by a train overnight.

The man who was killed was on a section of track that is not accessible to the public, but they have found a hole in the fence near it.

Even the station agent at the South Hayward BART station was surprised by the news this morning - she quickly made some signs that would soon surprise her passengers - announcing no train service south of Hayward. Her customers were not happy.

Police have reopened Osgood Road in Fremont after a suspected drunken driving crash left a 4-year-old girl in critical condition this morning, a police sergeant said.

The crash involving a Honda Civic and Toyota Camry was reported on Osgood Road between Blacow Road and Auto Mall Parkway around 12:15 a.m., a police Sgt. said.

A 33-year-old woman of Fremont was driving a silver Civic south on Osgood Road when she veered onto northbound lanes and slammed head on into a silver Camry, police said.

A 14-year-old girl may have been trying to retrieve her cellphone when she was fatally struck by a freight train traveling through Martinez Sunday evening. Jenna Betti, an 8th grader at nearby Martinez Junior High School, was pronounced deceased near the railroad tracks after emergency crews received a report that a female had been struck by a train near Old Orchard and Howe roads at about 5 p.m., police said. The freight train’s conductor told authorities that two people got off the tracks as the train approached but that for some reason, the girl stepped back on the tracks.

The driver of a stolen pickup was killed after crashing into power poles in Pittsburg on Thursday night and knocking out power to nearly 1,200 PG&E customers in the surrounding area, police and utility officials said. Around 11:40 p.m., residents in the 600 block of Rockspray Circle heard a vehicle starting outside their home and looked outside to see someone driving off in their truck, police said. Police said the residents tried to follow the driver in another car, but stopped after he began speeding at about 70 miles per hour on West 10th Street.

A veteran Berkeley firefighter-paramedic died when he crashed while riding a tractor off-duty near Martinez, authorities said Monday. Anthony "Tony" Nunes, 54, of Martinez was riding a tractor on family property near Bear Creek Road and Alhambra Valley Road when the vehicle went over an embankment off a fire trail, rolled 200 feet and pinned him, said Capt. Robert Marshall of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. Nunes died at the scene.

A man was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing into a car and light pole and fleeing the scene in Antioch on Friday night. Police said around 7:15 p.m., a 48-year-old man was driving near the intersection of A and West Third streets when he crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a car. After the crash the man kept driving, only coming to a stop after he hit a light pole and his car became disabled, police said. Police said he then exited the car and ran.

A woman was struck by a truck in San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighborhood Thursday afternoon, a fire department spokeswoman said.

The collision was reported at 3:11 p.m. at California and Fillmore streets, a fire spokeswoman said.

The pedestrian was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, Talmadge said. She did not immediately have information on the woman's condition.

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency officials posted on Twitter that the incident was causing delays on Muni's 3-Jackson and 22-Fillmore bus lines.

A 15-year-old boy was hit by a car Wednesday in a crosswalk at the same Sunset Boulevard intersection where an elderly man was killed crossing the street just two weeks ago.

The boy suffered head trauma and lower body injuries when he was hit crossing the street at Sunset Boulevard and Yorba Street around 6:17 p.m., authorities said. He is expected to survive. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
