A 72-year-old woman from South Carolina was killed Tuesday in a three-vehicle crash at the northbound entrance to the 495 Express Lanes on the Capital Beltway in Springfield, Virginia state police said.
The Greenville County Coroner said a woman was killed when a vehicle crossed the center line and hit her car head-on Saturday night. The coroner said Glenda Candace Jackson, 32, of Gray Court, died Saturday night around 10 p.m. at the scene of the accident. Deputies said the crash happened on South Carolina Highway 418 near Berry Road. Highway Patrol said Jackson was driving a 1994 Buick and the other car involved was a 2001 Ford. Several people from each vehicle were taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A man died after being caught between a car and a tree, according to Spartanburg County coroner Rusty Clevenger.
Clevenger said James Bryan Green, 32, of Inman, was found next to his 2011 Chevy Corvette on Lake Front Road just after 11 p.m. Thursday.
Clevenger said it appears the car’s manual transmission was in neutral, began to roll and Green tried to stop the car with his body.
He said the vehicle ran into a tree.
Clevenger said Green was able to free himself between the car and tree, and then died.
A Thomasville man died after crashing his motorcycle Saturday afternoon.
David Wayne Byerly, 42, was injured in the crash just after noon on Kennedy Road near Lambeth Road south of Thomasville. He was taken to a Thomasville hospital, where he died a short time later.
Byerly was riding a 2003 Harley Davidson when he lost control, was thrown off the bike and hit a car, troopers said.
Byerly was going too fast for the congested traffic on the road, troopers said.
Two brothers were taken to the hospital after a car ended up under a tractor-trailer in Greenville County Thursday night, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers.
Troopers said the wreck at happened 11:15 p.m. on Bruce Road at White Horse Road.
They said Timothy McClellan was driving a 2002 Sebring at a high rate of speed on Bruce Road and drove under a tractor-trailer that was turning left onto Bruce Road.
One person is dead after a car crossed the highway and overturned Thursday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The accident happened on U.S. 25 north of Travelers Rest just before 4:30 p.m., said troopers.
According to troopers, the SUV was heading south on U.S. 25 when it ran off the left side of the road crossed the median and then crossed both northbound lanes.
Troopers said the car then traveled down an embankment and overturned.
A woman was killed in a fiery crash involving a large truck that shut down Business 85 south Thursday morning.
Courtney Ann Sanford, 32, of Clemmons, died at the scene of the crash around 8:30 a.m. near Baker Road. The truck driver wasn't injured.
Sanford's 2005 Toyota Corolla was going north on Bus. 85 when it crossed the median and hit a metal recycling truck heading southbound, police said. The truck ended up hitting a tree.
The car's flames were quickly extinguished, police said. No one else was in either vehicle.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a wreck on Easter Sunday killed a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old man.
According to state troopers, the accident happened as a pickup truck was traveling north on Mt. Zion Road just outside of Wellford early Sunday morning.
The truck went off the left side of the road, over-corrected, went off the right side of the road and hit a tree, troopers said.
The truck's driver and a passenger were killed in the crash, and two other passengers in the truck were injured.
State troopers said an 11-year-old boy was killed in a deadly wreck near Pendleton.
According to the highway patrol, the wreck happened at 4:35 p.m. Saturday on Cherry Street Extension near Danehower Road.
State troopers said a vehicle traveling south on Cherry Street Extension lost control, went off the left side of the road and crashed into a tree.
Two other people in the vehicle were taken to AnMed Hospital. There is no update on their condition.
