One person is dead after a car crossed the highway and overturned Thursday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

One person is dead after a car crossed the highway and overturned Thursday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on U.S. 25 north of Travelers Rest just before 4:30 p.m., said troopers.

According to troopers, the SUV was heading south on U.S. 25 when it ran off the left side of the road crossed the median and then crossed both northbound lanes.

Troopers said the car then traveled down an embankment and overturned.

According to troopers, the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, and no one else was in the vehicle.

The Greenville County coroner's office identified the deceased as Kathryn Hensley, 67, of Travelers Rest.

The collision is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
