Police in Hickory say a woman was killed when she wrecked her car after driving off from a traffic stop. Police report that 39-year-old Crystal Annette Jones Port of Morganton was killed Wednesday night after her car crashed into a crane at a construction site in Long View. According to police, an officer stopped Port near an intersection shortly after 11 p.m. When the officer asked the woman to turn off her engine and step out of the vehicle, she sped away.

A man died in an ATV accident overnight in Catawba County, according to officials. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service about 5:30 a.m. Monday at Slanting Bridge Road and Tradewinds Drive. When they arrived, they found 30-year-old Joseph Hall's body was cold, suggesting he had been dead for hours, said a 911 dispatcher. The sheriff's office said Hall was driving north on Slanting Bridge Road when he hit a culvert drain pipe and crashed his ATV. Fire and EMS reported to the scene.

A West Charlotte Man is dead after an ATV crash Saturday afternoon. Police tell us Marvin Andrew Davis died during a ride with family friends. It happened in a wooded area near Dillard Valley Road. They say Davis was riding down a grassy hill at a high rate of speed attempting to jump a creek bed when the ATV struck the embankment on the other side of the creek. Davis was thrown off the ATV. Police say Davis was wearing a helmet.

Emergency crews say one person was killed in a vehicle crash Thursday morning in north Charlotte.

The crash was reported at Eastfield Road and Prosperity Church Road around 5:34 a.m., according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Avis Gray Gabbert, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene after investigators say she crossed the double yellow line in her SUV and hit an oncoming pickup truck head-on.

One person was killed in a vehicle accident near North Gaston High School Thursday.

According to NC Highway Patrol, the wreck happened near the intersection of Ratchford Road and Philadelphia Church Road around 4 p.m.

The victim's name has not been released.

Officials have not said what may have caused the accident, or if there were other injuries.

One person was killed and another injured in a southwest Charlotte accident Monday afternoon.

The wreck happened on West Boulevard near Yorkmont Road around 3:30 p.m.

Police at the scene confirmed that two people were taken from the scene, one to Carolinas Medical Center and one to the Chapel Hill Burn Center.

One of those victims died a short time later. Officials have not released their names.

Officers have not said what may have caused the crash. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Major Crash Unit is investigating.

A man was killed in a southwest Charlotte wreck after he was ejected from his car and badly burned.

The wreck happened in the 5700 block of West Boulevard near Yorkmont Road at 2:42 p.m. Monday afternoon, according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Major Crash Investigation Unit.

Investigators say a man lost control of his car, causing him to run off the road and slide sideways into an SUV. The SUV "t-boned" the car, causing the man to be ejected.

A vehicle crash that left one truck overturned has shut down the left and center lanes of I-485 inner Monday morning.

The incident was reported at 5:43 a.m. at mile marker 18 near the Oakdale Road exit, according to emergency crews.

Two lanes were open by 7:30 a.m.

The word yet on what caused the accident.

One person was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with potentially life threatening injuries.

Police are looking for a vehicle after deadly hit-and-run.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say the deadly accident happened at 2400 Alleghany Street just before 11 p.m. Saturday night.

Police say they found an unresponsive male laying in the road and MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased.

Police have identified the victim as Carrington Devol Ware, 50, according to CMPD.

The preliminary investigation revealed Ware was crossing Alleghany Street at Pebblebrook Drive when he was struck by a vehicle, police say.

Police in Charlotte say a 28-year-old man was killed when he slid on a patch of ice in east Charlotte and hit a utility pole. He had been drinking at the time of the crash, police say.

According to police, Thomas Andrew Lyall, 28, hit the icy patch along the 2300 block of Eastway Drive around 3:01 a.m. Friday morning.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police report says he lost control of the vehicle and slid sideways off the side of the road. The vehicle hit a snow bank and then hit a utility pole before flipping on its side.
