According to Las Vegas Metro Police, on Sunday evening a Mercedes-Benz carrying three teenagers was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on Grand Canyon Drive at the same time a Toyota Corolla driven by Christopher Casey, 35, was westbound on Hacienda Avenue at Grand Canyon, stopped at a two-way stop sign. The Toyota proceeded into the intersection, where it was struck by the speeding Mercedes-Benz. A passenger in the Toyota, John Pennington, 30, was ejected and suffered a traumatic brain injury, collapsed lungs, and a number of fractures.
A 15-year-old boy was crossing Jones Boulevard in a marked crosswalk at about 6:00pm when he was hit by a pickup truck driven by Richard Kliese, 78. Kliese allegedly drove around another vehicle before hitting the teen, who sustained critical injuries including a fractured leg and a brain injury, though he remained at the scene and did not appear to be impaired.
