Plane crash killed former Springfield mayor, coroner

Former Springfield, Illinois, Mayor Frank Edwards and his wife, Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards, were two of the three people killed when a small plane crashed in a central Illinois field, authorities said Wednesday.

In a statement posted to the party’s Facebook page, Sangamon County GOP chair Rosemarie Long said her “heart is saddened at the loss” of the couple, who were longtime members of the party establishment.

The couple, along with John D. Evans of Glenarm, perished in a plane crash seven miles outside of Springfield a week ago Tuesday.
