One charged with felony DUI following fatal accident in Lexington County

One man is charged with felony DUI with death following a dead accident in Lexington County on Friday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Derious Pahmas Sutton, 21, is in custody after troopers had to shut down parts of Highway 321 near the Lexington Industrial Park. Highway Patrol investigators say he was traveling south in the northbound lane.

Rhodes, 44, died at the scene of the Highway 321 accident., according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. The South Carolina Highway Patrol apprehended one man in connection with the accident and charged him with felony DUI involving death. Highway Patrol investigators say he was traveling south in the northbound lane. Derious Pahmas Sutton, 21, is in custody after troopers had to shut down parts of the highway near the Lexington Industrial Park.

In addition to being a mother, Rhodes worked at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care, according to reports from the bond court hearing. Family members expressed disappointment, but said they were not angry at Sutton. Several members of her family were present in bond court when Sutton shed tears and apologized for his actions. The man charged with felony DUI involving death after a mother of two who died in a fatal accident Friday was drunk after consuming alcohol at a company party, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol. Friday, Highway Patrol said Sutton's car crossed the median on Highway 321 near the Lexington Industrial Park and struck 44-year-old Valerie Rhodes' vehicle head on.
