Birmingham police say an SUV and a Ford pickup hauling a 40-foot trailer carrying the livestock were both headed in the same direction on I-59 northbound between First Avenue North and First Avenue South on Sunday evening when the the SUV hit the pickup truck. The SUV, with two men inside, flipped, while the impact sent the pickup truck down a ravine. The pickup driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken into custody on suspicion of intoxication. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.

Tonya Sanchez, 23, struck a tree at about 2 p.m. off of I-59 northbound near Pearl River, Louisiana. Sanchez, who was alone in the car, was extracted from the vehicle and transported to Ochsner Northshore in Slidell, where she later died of her injuries.

A man was driving near Monroe Road on Interstate 59 when he drove off the road, and the car rolled over and caught fire. Bystanders were able to help the man escape before the vehicle caught fire, saving his life. Parts of the forest the car crashed into caught fire when the car did, but firefighters were able to contain it. The man's name has not been released.
