Motorist hauling 8 bulls killed in I-59 crash; 1 in custody, police said

Edwards said they've called livestock experts from Aliceville in to take possession of the eight bulls. "It's a mess up there,'' he said.

Authorities say the bulls weren't badly injured in the crash.

Birmingham police say an SUV and a Ford pickup hauling a 40-foot trailer carrying the livestock were both headed in the same direction on I-59 northbound between First Avenue North and First Avenue South on Sunday evening when the the SUV hit the pickup truck. The SUV, with two men inside, flipped, while the impact sent the pickup truck down a ravine. The pickup driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken into custody on suspicion of intoxication. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
