Washington State Patrol says speed and intoxicants were factors in a crash on Interstate 5 Sunday night in Vancouver. Kevin W. Smith, 52, of Kelso was reportedly driving south on Interstate 5 about 6 p.m. in a 2002 Chrysler Sebring when he rear-ended a Honda Accord near Northeast 134th Street, according to state patrol. A juvenile passenger in the Accord was injured and transported to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. The passenger’s name was not released and her condition is unknown. Smith was also injured and taken to Legacy Salmon Creek.
Adam W. Newstrom, 28, of Vancouver died in a single-vehicle crash on Sunday night in Lewis County. Newstrom was a passenger in a 1991 Honda Accord driven by Jonathon K. Reno of Vancouver. Reno was traveling south on Jackson Highway at a high rate of speed. The Accord was turning a corner, struck a guardrail and crossed the center line near Ray Road, two miles south of Toledo. Then, the Honda struck a power pole on the front right passenger door of the vehicle and came to rest in a ditch. The crash was reported just before 7 p.m.
