Washington State Patrol says speed and intoxicants were factors in a crash on Interstate 5 Sunday night in Vancouver. Kevin W. Smith, 52, of Kelso was reportedly driving south on Interstate 5 about 6 p.m. in a 2002 Chrysler Sebring when he rear-ended a Honda Accord near Northeast 134th Street, according to state patrol. A juvenile passenger in the Accord was injured and transported to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. The passenger’s name was not released and her condition is unknown. Smith was also injured and taken to Legacy Salmon Creek.
A suspected DUI driver was arrested after crashing into an Orange County home and killing a resident who was in bed inside early Sunday, officials said. A man was killed when the vehicle struck the Mission Viejo home just before 4 a.m., according to the Orange County Fire Authority. The man was in bed when the vehicle struck the home. The victim was pronounced dead on arrival, officials said. Two people inside the vehicle suffered minor injuries, officials said. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.
The driver of an SUV who crashed into a pole in Seattle’s Rainier Valley Sunday night has been arrested on vehicular assault charges. The collision occurred at Rainier Avenue South and South Willow Street shortly after 9 p.m., where a SUV with a driver and three passengers had collided with a telephone pole at a high rate of speed. The driver, a 27-year-old man, had a broken leg. One passenger, who was ejected from the back seat, had serious injuries. Another passenger had minor injuries from the crash.
