A vehicle crashed into a tree on I-64 in James City County, VA. Three individuals were in the vehicle.
The driver of a Pontiac G6, swerved into the right emergency lane crashing into a disabled abandoned pickup truck. The individual was killed after the car spun around, turned over and burst into flames. The vehicle was destroyed and efforts to identify the driver and determine the cause of the accident continue.
Erick Chavez, a passenger in a minor car accident involving two vehicles, in the 9700 block of Sheldon Rd near U.S. Highway 90, north of Channelview, was killed after being struck by a Chevrolet Silverado. Chavez exited the vehicle to move it out of the ditch and was hit. He was pronounced dead by paramedics. The case remains open and under investigation.
Around 5:00 a.m. a Subaru Legacy on Dublin Boulevard ran a red light and struck a yellow cab on Powers Boulevard. The 23-year-old male driving the Subaru was hospitalized with serious injuries. The 37-year-old male driving the yellow cab was taken to the hospital as a precaution. None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening. Speed and foggy weather conditions could be a factor in the accident.
An elderly man was killed on Nottingham Road near Peck Hill Road around 11:45 a.m. when he went off the shoulder and rolled over. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and may have suffered a medical issue that caused the accident. The crash remains under investigation and an autopsy will be required. Due to the vehicle's unstable position it had to be anchored to a nearby tree, and remains upside down off the road. The driver has not yet been removed from the car, and police have not identified the driver because next-of-kin have not been notified.
Brady Nguyen, 44, stated that he might have fallen asleep when his car left the road and hit a road sign on eastbound Interstate 44 at the Lewis exit in Tulsa, OK. Nguyen was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities found marijuana and a smoking device. A passenger was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
Jasim Alkuraishi, 76, of Northridge, killed, 25 year old Pico Rivera man and his passenger, a 15 year old Pico Rivera boy, and 23 year old Northridge woman injured in a three vehicle accident on the 10 Freeway, just west of Rosemead Boulevard, in Rosemead, CA. A stalled Honda in the fast lane, driven by the 25 year old man, was hit from behind by Alkuraishi's Nissan. A second Nissan then struck Alkuraishi's vehicle.
