A small boat capcised in Great Kills Harbor near Mansion Avenue on Staten Island, NY Tuesday morning. The two boaters on board were taken to Staten Island University Hospital South where one is in serious condition, and the other was pronounced dead.

An out-of-control vehicle veered onto a sidewalk on Staten Island and hit two women, killing one of them Monday afternoon, police say.

The 23-year-old driver of the Honda Accord was going southbound on Hylan Boulevard when he went up on the sidewalk at Cleveland Avenue, hitting two cousins, a 31-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman, according to police.

Witness Christina Angelis said she heard a woman scream and heard the car crash. Police officers happened to be passing by the boulevard the moment it happened, and they rushed out of their car.

A three car accident on Tuesday morning sent 11 people to the hospital, including a baby who suffered serious injuries, the FDNY and a witness said. The cars crashed into each other at the four-way stop sign at Harold Street and Gansevoort Boulevard around 7:41 a.m., according to fire officials. Rev. Sunny Joseph, the brother of one of the drivers, said that a blue pickup truck ran the stop sign at the intersection and hit a white Infiniti and the Honda Minivan driven by his sister Suja Biju. "He suddenly came and hit her," Joseph said. "It's painful."

A man was injured in a fiery crash of a tractor-trailer truck and a van on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge that snarled traffic on the Staten Island Expressway during the height of rush hour on Tuesday morning.

The 23-year-old driver of the van was taken to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze with non-life threatening injuries, said MTA spokeswoman Judie Glave.

The upper level of the span was closed for about two hours as a result of the incident, Ms. Glave said.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- An accident on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway has caused traffic to back up on Wednesday morning onto the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the Staten Island Expressway heading eastbound.

The accident occurred at about 4:30 a.m., and though it has been cleared, traffic was still was backed up for miles at about 8 a.m. on the BQE.

Fire officials say one person was taken to a hospital in serious condition following the accident in the eastbound lanes of the BQE.

A motorcyclist was severely injured Tuesday evening in an accident on Richmond Avenue, just outside the NYPD's 121st Precinct stationhouse in Graniteville.

The motorcycle rider was transported to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, in critical condition, police said.

About a dozen other motorcyclists on the scene said they knew the victim but declined to comment on the accident. They appeared to gather some of the victim's belongings, including a helmet.
