A chain-reaction crash that killed a woman and mangled seven cars may have been triggered by a suspected drunk driver. The incident occurred at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Vanalden Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Monday. Police say the driver of a silver car likely triggered the wreck, and alcohol and speed may have contributed to the accident.

An off-duty Bexar County deputy was seriously injured in a crash involving an intoxicated driver late Sunday evening, according to authorities. At around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, the deputy pulled over to help the driver of a Mustang who was reportedly the victim of a hit and run. Police said the off-duty deputy's vehicle was hit by an SUV before she could get out of her vehicle and assist the stranded motorist.

A man who crashed into a tree while driving under the influence in Poway was taken into custody early Saturday, said a sheriff's spokesman. About 6:30 a.m. deputies received a call that a man drove off the road and crashed into a tree at Twin Peaks Road and Maplewood Street. When deputies arrived on scene the driver was not there. Witnesses said the driver walked away and gave a description of the man to deputies. He was found a few blocks away and arrested on suspicion of DUI. The man had minor injuries from his airbag deploying. No other injuries were reported.

A man was struck and killed Saturday morning after he got out of the passenger side of a vehicle in Sandy Springs. According to authorities, 24-year-old Devon Baxley, of Marietta, was killed when he got out of the vehicle on I-285 West at New Northside Drive. Police say the driver of the vehicle that struck Baxley was not charged. However, the driver of the vehicle that Baxley left, 30-year-old Sara Anderson, was charged with DUI and taken to Fulton County jail.

The man who slammed into a marked Prince George’s County police cruiser Friday morning had a blood alcohol level that was twice the legal limit, authorities said. Police arrested 32-year-old Devonne Brooks, who faces charges for allegedly driving under the influence during the crash that sent a police officer to a hospital.

A motorist who rear-ended and killed another driver on Interstate 580 in Livermore on Thursday was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter, authorities said. The collision happened shortly after 10 a.m., when Primitivo Garcia, 53, of Livermore failed to slow his Hummer for traffic and rear-ended a Jeep, causing the Jeep to burst into flames in the westbound lanes near North Livermore Avenue, said the CHP.

Troopers arrested a driver for suspicion of DUI Thursday morning after a car crashed into a barrier and flipped upside down on State Route 520. It happened around 2 am. in Clyde Hill east of the floating bridge. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A Wheaton man was charged with driving under the influence of drugs after he struck and killed an elderly woman Thursday morning in the Clearing neighborhood on the Southwest Side. James Rudzinski, 61, is charged with felony aggravated DUI causing a fatal accident in connection with the crash in the 6300 block of North Narragansett Avenue, police News Affairs said in a release.

An Oregon City woman died after she was ejected out of a friend's car that was turning onto a street in Gresham Wednesday night, police said. Peggy J. Jennen, 73, died at the scene just after 11:30 p.m., according to the Gresham Police Department. Investigators said her friend, Lisa A. Wilson, 52, of Troutdale, was driving drunk when she turned from westbound NW Division Street to southbound NW Bella Vista Place and Jennen fell out of the car.

Oklahoma City police said a crash that killed a father of four young children was caused by a man who was high on drugs. Oklahoma City police said Dustin Hall, 31, caused a crash Monday night near NE 10th and N. Standish. According to officers, Hall was high on drugs and admitted to looking down at his phone. Ronald Banton, 27, was killed in the crash. His 5-year-old son JaeRon was in the car with him but was not hurt. Hall was arrested and police said he could be charged with second-degree murder.
