A Baltimore woman died from injuries sustained in a chain-reaction accident along Route 1 in Jessup Wednesday morning. According to Howard County Police, Rafaella Bonita Griffin, 39, of Cooks Lane in Baltimore, died Wednesday night after being taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center earlier in the day. Griffin's vehicle, a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, was stopped at a traffic light on northbound Route 1, preparing to turn left into the Route 1 Shopping Center south of Kit Kat Road in Jessup, according to police.

A man was killed Monday morning when the septic truck he was driving was struck by a Union Pacific train at a crossing in the Town of Hammond, just east of Roberts, Wis. The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office was called about 11 a.m. to the crossing on 150th Street just north of County Road TT. The train was traveling west, and the truck was heading south when they collided, investigators said. The driver of the truck, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. Nobody aboard the train was injured.

A tanker truck carrying fuel rolled over on Route 6 in Barnstable Friday afternoon and crashed into the woods. The tanker was hauling home heating oil, which state police reported to be leaking. The Department of Environmental Protection was called in to assess the environmental impact of the spill. Route 6 Eastbound at Route 132 was closed for a short time. As of 1:15 p.m., one lane of traffic was being allowed past the crash scene. The driver was reported to have sustained minor injuries. There was no immediate word on what caused the crash.

A wrong-way crash on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County left one woman dead on Tuesday night. State police say a tractor-trailer crashed head-on into a vehicle headed north in the southbound lanes in Silver Spring Township. The collision happened after the truck sideswiped another vehicle trying to avoid the oncoming car. The crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. on I-81 near mile marker 57 outside of Mechanicsburg. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, Aaron King, of Carlisle, was killed

An explosive crash on the Reagan Tollway killed a toll worker instantly and left an Illinois state trooper, identified as Trooper Douglas Balder seriously injured. Representatives for the Illinois Tollway identified the worker who died as Vincent Petrella, 39, an employee since 2005. According to state police, Petrella and the trooper were responding to a disabled semi-trailer on the right shoulder and lane of I-88 eastbound at Eola Road in Aurora around 10 p.m. Monday when another semi, driven by Renato Velasquez, 46, crashed into all three vehicles.

Investigators say one person was killed after a car slammed into the back of a trash truck in Delaware County early Tuesday morning. The accident happened at about 7:15 a.m. in the 400 block of State Road in Media. The exact cause of the deadly accident remains under investigation.

A man died after being wedged between two tractor-trailers Tuesday in Otay Mesa, a San Diego fire dispatcher said. The man was changing a tire on a tractor-trailer when it fell off the jack and pinned him against another semi, the dispatcher said. Emergency crews freed him, but he was declared dead. The incident took place at Mex-Cal Truckline Inc. on Airway Road near La Media Road and was reported about 4:40 p.m., police said.

State Police are on the scene of a dump truck roll-over off Route 93 north near the Dorchester Yacht Club. The truck appears to have crashed through the guard rail, down an embankment and into the water off Malibu Beach. Police say the driver sustained minor injuries. Crews are working to contain a fuel spill from the truck. Authorities estimate 50 gallons of fuel has been spilled.

One person was hurt after a head-on crash early Wednesday morning near Port Mayaca. At 6:30am rescue crews responded to the 14977 block area of US 441 for reports of a sugarcane truck accident. First-arriving crews found heavy damage to both vehicles, according to Cpt. Albert Borroto with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. A man was taken to Lakeside Medical in Belle Glade for treatment.

Nine people were taken to three area hospitals Wednesday morning after a school bus and a tractor-trailer collided on U.S. 70 in Johnston County, officials said. The incident happened about 7 a.m. near the highway’s intersection with Uzzle Industrial Drive, officials said. The bus had 13 students on board. Seven students were taken by EMS, along with the drivers of both the bus and truck. The bus, number 63, was transporting students to Smithfield Middle School.
