At about 4:00pm Anderson was caught speeding by a police officer on Chester Pike, who then chose to make a U-turn and followed Anderson down a few other streets in an attempt to pull him over. A passenger in that vehicle was hospitalized in critical condition, while Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said a passenger in the car suffered critical injuries while the driver suffered serious injuries. Three people in the SUV had serious injuries, but they are expected to survive. The SUV driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
The suspect fled on foot after the crash and was arrested about two hours later near the Paragon Chateau movie theater in northeast Rochester, about 5 miles from the scene of the accident. Authorities believe the 57-year-old Rochester man was under the influence of alcohol, says Sgt. Dan Monnet. A 29-year-old woman and two juvenile passengers transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus for treatment; the extent of their injuries is unknown.
The truck crashed after it turned into head-on traffic while trying to evade police. However, police were stunned when one of the women — who they noticed appeared to be pregnant — suddenly went into labor.
