The pedestrian hit and killed in Brighton on Sunday was a longtime chemistry professor at the University of Rochester who was considered a pioneer among women scientists. Esther Rothberg, professionally known by her maiden name Esther Conwell, was walking on Pelham Road about 3 p.m. when she was hit by a car driven by her neighbor Daniel N. Police arrived on the crash scene shortly before 2 a.m. near Chili Coldwater Road and Interstate 490 and found a Jeep rolled over with two unconscious men trapped inside with minor injuries. After they freed the two men, Jesse L. Willey, 23, and Nathan M. Williams, 19, and performed first aid, it was found that they had ingested heroin and had it in their possession. Willey, the driver, and Williams both face charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Willey was also charged with driving while impaired with drugs. Both were issued appearance tickets for Chili Town Court.

Cassandra Erath, 24, of Hilton, was charged with DWI after the vehicle she was driving hit a car and a tree near the VerHulst Haunted Hayrides in Parma on Saturday night. The accident took place in the area of 5112 West Ridge Road, near the hayride, around 11 p.m. Erath was intoxicated when she hit another car and a tree before coming to a stop. Erath was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other car did not report any injuries.

Monroe County sheriff's deputies are looking for information in the search for three drivers thought to be involved in the hit-and-run crash that killed a Penfield woman on Empire Boulevard Saturday night. Amy Menz, 30, had some kind of argument with a family member Saturday night in a Creek Hill Apartments residence. She then ran toward Empire Boulevard, around 10 p.m., where witnesses saw Menz standing by the road  as though she was waiting for vehicles to go past. Menz then ran into traffic and was struck by three cars, the drivers of which briefly stopped but then quickly left the scene.

The victim was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where died of his injuries. The vehicle left in an unknown direction. Police have not yet released any information on the victim's name or the suspect and vehicle involved. Check back for updates.

A conductor on a westbound freight train reported what he thought was a motor vehicle accident on the railroad tracks at Savage Road. A maintenance worker nearby heard the call and found the unconscious ATV rider and three other ATVs. The ATV had struck a sign post and rolled more than 100 yards down the gravel road, causing the rider to lose his helmet. Paramedics transported the rider in critical condition to the hospital.

Mariah A. Eccleston, of Greece, is accused of driving into pedestrian Joseph L. Pacheco, of Gates, on Howard Road on August 12, then leaving the scene. Pacheco later died. She was arraigned Wednesday in Monroe County Court.

State police say a motorcycle driver has been charged with riding drunk and manslaughter after a crash that killed his passenger.

They say Dennis Conklin of Williamson has been charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated following an investigation of the wreck that left 46-year-old Mary Nolan of Rochester dead.

Troopers say Conklin was weaving through traffic at high speed when he crashed around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 590 in Rochester.

Nolan as thrown from the bike and Conklin was injured.
