Authorities said the man whose truck was hit by a train Thursday night is facing a DUI charge. The light rail Sprinter was carrying 37 passengers when it struck an empty truck near Vista. The driver of the truck said it stalled on the tracks and he apparently tried to warn the oncoming Sprinter train by waving it down. However, the train struck and heavily damaged the truck. None of the people on the train or the vehicle driver were hurt.
A man suspected of being drunk and high on marijuana reportedly caused a head-on collision early today on Government Way at Houston Road. David J. Rogers, 29, was driving a Dodge pickup west on Government Way at 2:30 a.m. when the truck crossed the center line and hit a Mitsubishi Outlander head on. Rogers and his 32-year-old passenger were ejected through the windshield and seriously injured. The 21-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi also received serious injuries. Deputies believe Rogers was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.
