A woman was killed Tuesday afternoon when her car was struck by a BNSF train in Bonner County, Idaho, a BNSF spokesman said. The woman, who wasn’t identified, pulled in front of the engine at a railroad crossing at Heath Lake Road, near Sagle at 4:22 p.m. The intersection was marked with railroad crossing signs and stop signs, and the train sounded its whistle, BNSF said. The train was traveling at 59 miles per hour. None of the train’s crew was injured in the crash. The train, which was traveling from Portland to Chicago, continued on its route about 8 p.m.
A 28-year-old Woodland, Wash., man died New Year's Eve when the car he was driving failed to make a turn, traveled down a bank and crashed. Christopher J. Beacock died at the scene. Two passengers, Matthew S. Hance, 25, of Battleground, Wash., and Nicholas L. Ackerill, 33, of Ridgefield, Wash., were transported to Southwest Washington Medical Center. Their condition was unknown. Beacock was test-driving the car, a 2003 Ford Mustang owned by Hance. Witnesses told police the car was speeding at the time of the crash, about 10:40 p.m.
