Houston Police are investigating the first fatal crash of 2014. Officers say around 1 a.m. a Chevy pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver ran a red light and hit a white Mercedes at the intersection of Pierce and Milam in downtown Houston. A husband and wife were inside that Mercedes. Police say the man died, the woman was taken to Memorial Hermann hospital. The driver and a passenger in the pickup truck were also hurt and taken to the hospital. Police believe alcohol was a factor.

A driver died after he slammed his car into the wall of the Westpark Tollway, according to HPD. Police say the driver way going westbound on the tollway when the driver lost control around 2am on Wednesday. The car collided with the wall. The driver died on impact. Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

A woman has died after being hit by two vehicles, according to the Greenville County coroner. Troopers said the incident happened on White Horse Road at Old White Horse Road at 2:18 a.m. Adrian S. Smith, 27, died at the scene from blunt force trauma to the chest.

A man has died after he lost control of his car in Greenville County Wednesday morning, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers. The wreck happened at 4:45 a.m. on Fork Shoals Road near McKelvey Road, troopers said. The Greenville County coroner identified the man as 27-year-old Aaron Robert Carlberg of Simpsonville. The coroner said Carlberg was not wearing his seat belt when his car left the roadway and went up an embankment before hitting several trees. The vehicle overturned and Carlberg was partially ejected.

A 17-year-old Jupiter girl was killed early this morning in a one-car accident at Military Trail and Toney Penna Drive, Jupiter police said. Lynnae N. Copeland was traveling north on Military Trail in a 2001 Volkswagen Passat when she attempted to make a right turn onto Toney Penna Drive, according to officer Adam Brown, spokesman for the Jupiter Police Department. She lost control of the car and collided with a light pole. Copeland was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where she died of her injuries.

Thirteen people were injured, six critically, early Wednesday morning after an explosion caused a major fire at a grocery store and apartment building in the bustling Cedar-Riverside neighborhood in south Minneapolis. At a morning news conference the Minneapolis Fire Chief said they do not know yet if all the residents are accounted for. Some made it out on their own into the subzero temperatures, but others had to be rescued with ladders.

The northbound U.S. Highway 101 connector ramp to northbound Interstate Highway 680 in San Jose has opened after a solo-vehicle crash early this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officers responded to reports of an overturned red Nissan Altima that crashed on the ramp around 3:50 a.m., the CHP said. The CHP is actively looking for the Nissan’s three occupants whom witnesses said exited the vehicle, hopped into another car and fled the scene.

Two people were killed and another critically injured in a car crash early New Year’s Day in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, authorities said. Crews responded about 4:45 a.m. to the crash in the 4500 block of West Lake Street, a Fire Media Affairs spokesman said. The car had been travelling westbound when the driver crashed into a light pole, a police News Affairs Officer said. A man and a woman in the car were dead at the scene, and another woman who was ejected from the car was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, according to police and fire officials.

North Carolina Highway Patrol says an infant was one of three people who died because of a vehicle crash in Bertie County Friday night. Two adults and a baby were traveling west on State Road 1001 near Colerain when their vehicle strayed to the right of the road, struck a ditch and crashed into a tree. Troopers say the vehicle caught fire, and 48-year-old Willie Lee Perry, 52-year-old Phyllis Perry, and 1-year-old Madison Perry passed away. Highway Patrol said the three shared the same home address, but it is not clear the exact relationship between them.

A stretch of Interstate 95 in Flagler County reopened Tuesday evening after being closed for more than 13 hours when a driver was killed in a fiery crash that damaged the roadway, officials say. Florida Highway Patrol crews were called around 4 a.m. Tuesday to I-95 northbound near Palm Coast Parkway in Palm Coast in reference to a crash. Troopers said a big rig transporting fuel and a tractor-trailer collided. The truck carrying fuel exploded, killing the driver Christopher Mceuen, 41, of Jacksonville according to the FHP.
