Firefighters in Charlotte have cleared a vehicle crash that all but closed access to Interstate 77 southbound from Interstate 85 southbound Tuesday morning. The incident was reported at 6:59 a.m. at milemarker 38. That's the ramp from I-85 to I-77 southbound. The left lane of the ramp is closed. The accident was cleared from the roadway by 8 a.m., according to NCDOT. Medic transported one patient with potentially life threatening injuries.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly accident that happened Saturday night. Troopers say a truck driver was driving on I-77, near the Mount Holly-Huntersville Road Overpass, when he drove his truck off the road and overturned. The truck driver was pronounced dead on the scene. Fifty-five gallons of oil was thrown from the truck, but it has been cleaned up since the accident.

Wadesboro Police are investigating a deadly Christmas Day crash.

Investigators say a Volkswagon driving westbound on Highway 74 in Anson County crossed the line and hit a Dodge Intrepid going eastbound head-on at about 4:01 p.m. Several people were hurt and a baby died.

According to Wadesboro Police, the Hooper family was in the Volkswagon, heading back home to Gaston County after a holiday get-together in Hamlet.

The N.C. Highway Patrol says an Alabama couple was killed as they changed a tire on Interstate 40. The patrol identified the victims as George and Carol Kittle, of Hollytree, Ala. Both were 66. The patrol said the couple was almost done changing the tire when a truck sideswiped their truck and struck them Tuesday morning, throwing them 100 feet. The accident occurred in the westbound lanes of I-40 at the Catawba County line.

Three people were taken to the hospital following a two-car collision on U.S. 221 South on Wednesday. According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, at around 1 p.m. Wednesday, Wanda Callaouway, of Lenoir, was driving south on U.S. 221 when a car in front of her stopped suddenly. She swerved to miss it and hit a vehicle driven by Charles Hutchins, of Forest City, and the guardrail. Hutchins, along with a passenger, Kasey Whitesides, and an infant child was transported by EMS to McDowell Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Callouway was charged with failure to reduce speed.

A logging truck overturned near Statesville Monday, causing a road to close. The crash happened just before noon on Old Mocksville Road about four miles northeast of town, WCNC reported. The truck driver was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Chopper footage showed the entire load of logs spilled off the side of the roadway. The road was closed for a few hours. The crash is still under investigation. No other vehicles were involved.

Three people were injured Friday morning when a car slammed into a power pole on Beatties Ford Road in northwest Charlotte, authorities say. The wreck forced police to close portions of the road for a while. The wreck was reported shortly before 10 a.m. in the 1900 block of Beatties Ford Road. That is south of LaSalle Street and about three blocks north of Northwest School of the Arts. The power pole was damaged and lines knocked down. A spokeswoman for Medic said the three injured people were taken to Carolinas Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police on Friday charged a 50-year-old man with felony hit-and-run in the death of a pedestrian who was halfway across Eastway Drive Thursday evening when she was struck by a 2003 GMC, C5500, pickup truck.

Lola Jean Williams, 54, was killed about 6:20 p.m. near Eastway Crossing Drive, police said. The white pickup then headed north toward Central Avenue, police said.
