A car crashed into the south entrance of the U.S. post office on Prospect Street at about 11 a.m. Feb. 28, according to several witness reports.

As of 3 p.m., the post office was open and serving people through the north entrance.

The post office is undergoing an inspection following the crash, which dislodged several exterior bricks, broke glass and warped the doorframe, to make sure the building is still safe.

There is no word on how long the inspection would take or when the results will be released.

At least one person was hurt in a crash in Kent County Friday afternoon. It happened on 17 Mile Road (M-46) between Sparta and Afton avenues, east of Kent City. UPDATE: The person hurt in this accident has been identified as Sherri Marlene Knapp, 54 of Kent City. She has died of her injuries due to the accident. 6-year-old boy died and three other people were hospitalized Friday following a wrong-way car crash on Interstate 5 just north of Vancouver. The accident happened just before 2 p.m. when an 84-year-old Vancouver man driving south in the northbound portion of I-5 crashed head-on into a car driven by a La Center woman who had two children in her vehicle. Gage W. Musgrave was driving a white 2005 Toyota Avalon, according to the Washington State Patrol accident report, when he collided with a 2008

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision that killed three people in Pontotoc County. At 8:35 p.m. on Friday night, troopers were dispatched to the crash scene located on Highway 6, near Beulah Grove Road. The preliminary investigation indicates Margel Swann, 51, of New Albany, was driving a 1995 Isuzu pick-up east bound in the west bound lanes of the highway when his vehicle collided head-on into a 2004 Honda Accord, driven by Connie Malone, 43, of Thaxton.

Amanda O’Malley has a very long road to recovery ahead of her. Her family says they are happy she’s alive. “To leave someone one the road to die like that is a disgrace,” Amanda’s dad, Brian O’Malley, said. Speaking outside UMass Memorial Medical Center, Brian O’Malley said his 23-year-old daughter remains in the ICU after being hit by a car while walking the family dog on Belmont Street in Worcester Friday night. “It’s really scary. Thank God someone was there and called the ambulance. There was a car there that stopped and we want to thank that person,” Brian said.

An 18-year-old BYU student remains in critical condition after being hit by a car while riding her longboard skateboard, according to her parents. Lexi Mae Hansen was hit Wednesday evening as she was crossing Canyon Road on her longboard. Lt. Matt Siufanua with the Provo Police Department said Hansen was riding her longboard south on University Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night when she was hit by a car making a turn onto Canyon Road.

A pedestrian was injured in a hit and run in lower Manhattan. Police say the incident took place on Bowery & Hester streets. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Police recovered the car they believe was involved in the accident, but no word on if the suspect was captured.

Police have arrested a driver for a hit-and-run incident in Norwich Friday night. Officers responded to 159 Norwich Ave where a 10-year-old child was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene just before 7:00 p.m. According to police, the child suffered a leg injury and was taken to William W. Backus Hospital. His injuries are non-life threatening. The driver, Theresa Morgan of Norwich, was arrested a short time later after the accident. Morgan is charged with evading responsibility and released on a $2,500 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on March 11th.

A multiple-car crash on Route 1 in Peabody this afternoon sent a state trooper to the hospital, State Police said. None of the people in the other vehicles were injured, officials said. The four-car collision, which included a State Police cruiser, occurred at about 2 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway, according to a State Police spokesman . The trooper operating the vehicle suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. He was taken to North Shore Medical Center’s Salem Hospital, said police. No one in the other vehicles was injured, State Police said.

A 57-year-old Blasdell man and a 40-year-old West Valley man were both hospitalized after a two-car crash at about 12:20 p.m. Friday at New Oregon Road and Genesee Road in the Town of North Collins, the Erie Count Sheriff’s office reported. Bernard Mazurczak of Blasdell was heading south on New Oregon when he reportedly failed to yield the right of way to a westbound snowplow at the intersection with Genesee Road. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.
