Amanda O’Malley has a very long road to recovery ahead of her. Her family says they are happy she’s alive. “To leave someone one the road to die like that is a disgrace,” Amanda’s dad, Brian O’Malley, said. Speaking outside UMass Memorial Medical Center, Brian O’Malley said his 23-year-old daughter remains in the ICU after being hit by a car while walking the family dog on Belmont Street in Worcester Friday night. “It’s really scary. Thank God someone was there and called the ambulance. There was a car there that stopped and we want to thank that person,” Brian said. Police say the driver that hit Amanda did not stop. “Accidents happen and it’s a terrible accident, but you don’t leave someone on the side of the road to die,” Brian said. The family said Amanda suffered multiple injuries but is expected to survive. She is a senior at Assumption College studying biology. She was home just for the weekend.
