Tampa Police have arrested a Bay area man in connection with Friday night’s fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl.
Geraldo Rivera, 48, is facing one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail just after 5 am Saturday and is being held on a bond of $15,000.
According to the suspect’s arrest report he was arrested just after midnight at his home in the 900 block of East 26th Ave. His residence is approximately two miles from the site of the fatal crash.
Three people are dead after they crashed head on with a semi truck Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 64-year-old Diane Downey, and two children, an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old, were all killed in this accident.
Downey was driving a 2007 Chevy Impala on eastbound I-10 just west of the 214 mile marker. According to FHP, a woman driving a Honda Accord collided with the Impala just around just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The impact pushed the Impala over the median of I-10 and into the westbound lanes and into the path of a semi truck.
A 26-year-old man died following a motorcycle crash Tuesday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say Carlos Reuben Perez, Jr. was driving eastbound on Arlington Expressway to the northbound Southside Connector on the on-ramp.
Perez was traveling around a curve when he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the concrete traffic barrier wall.
Perez was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the concrete embankment Arlington Expressway service road, FHP reported.
According to troopers, Perez was wearing a helmet.
A small plane crash-landed on a remote Florida Gulf Coast beach, killing a Georgia man and critically injuring his 9-year-old daughter as they walked along the shore.
The 1972 Piper Cherokee lost a wheel, damaged a wing and smashed its propeller shortly after making a distress call about 2:45 p.m. Sunday to Venice Municipal Airport. Caspersen Beach is just south of the airport, at the southern tip of the island of Venice.
Two Tampa men died in a car crash early Saturday morning while speeding away from gun shots, police said.
The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. near the 3700 block of Lowry Court. Willie Boyd III, 20, and Algernon Belin Jr., 28, were riding in a black Honda Civic when shots fired out. Witnesses then saw the Honda peeling away from the house.
The driver, whom police have not identified, lost control of the car a short distance later, crashing at 46th Street and Lake Avenue.
The victim of a fatal crash in Nassau County early Wednesday have been identified.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:45 a.m. near Callahan on County Road 108, which is known locally as River Road.
Mark Estell, 39, of St. George, Georgia, was traveling eastbound and negotiating a right hand curve when his 2006 Nissan Sentra crossed the double yellow line, FHP said in a media release.
The release also explained that the Sentra then collided with the left rear tires of an empty trailer being pulled by a semi truck traveling westbound.
Surveillance video from two businesses has Tampa Police investigating 4-year-old Marterrance Albury's death as a hit and run.
Originally, because of a witness statement, officers thought Marterrance fell out of an SUV and was run over by the rear wheels. Now, officers believe Marterrance was never in a vehicle, but instead, wandered into the street and was hit by the driver of a Ford Expedition who drove off.
