BELLEVILLE, Illinois — Authorities are asking for the public's help in finding a southwestern Illinois man accused of drunkenly causing the death of a passenger in his car.

St. Clair County prosecutors on Friday charged 36-year-old William Wellmon of Granite City with one count each of reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol causing death. Wellmon hasn't been arrested on the charges.

A Gastonia man has died nearly a week after investigators say he was hit by two vehicles while crossing the street. Investigators say both drivers left the scene. According to investigators with the Gastonia Police Department, 53-year-old John Wayne King died at Carolinas Medical Center from his injuries. King was involved in a hit and run at East Long Avenue and Broad Street last Friday. According to a witness, King was walking in the crosswalk across the intersection when he was struck by a white sports utility vehicle followed by another sedan.

Police in Pine Bluff say the suspected driver in a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a teenager has been arrested. Police told reporters that 14-year-old Charles Jones was killed Friday night when he was struck while crossing U.S. 79 on the city's south side. Police say witnesses reported that the driver left the scene -- but a car matching the description of the one that struck Jones was later found and the suspected driver arrested early Saturday.

The township police department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Route 9 near Phillips Drive about 3:49 p.m. Friday. The driver, Boris Khaskes, 53, of Manalapan, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person his vehicle, police said. The crash involved five vehicles in both the north and south bound lanes, the closing of which delayed traffic for about 20 minutes, police said. A passenger in another vehicle was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with unknown injuries, police said.

New York State Police say a mother and her 30-year-old son have been killed after the car they were driving went off the shoulder of a road, got airborne and slammed into a tree. Troopers say in a statement Friday that Mervyn Albert of Schenectady was driving a 2005 Mazda too fast in the town of Saratoga when he lost control, ran off north shoulder and hit the tree. Troopers say the accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. They say 56-year-old mom Angeli Persaud was in the passenger seat. The two family members were pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner.

Two drivers were killed in a two-vehicle wreck on the Southern State Parkway on Long Island Friday afternoon. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital and pronounced dead there. The victims have been identified as a 39-year-old male from Brentwood, N.Y., and 25-year-old man from Smithtown. Their names have not been released. The cause of the wreck is under investigation. The westbound Southern State closed between exits 40 and 39 around 4 p.m. and reopened around 9:45 p.m

A 3-year-old girl was killed Friday after being ejected from a vehicle in a rollover crash on Highway 99 in Northern California, authorities said. In addition, a 10-year-old boy was airlifted to University of California, Davis Medical Center, and a 9-year-old girl was taken to San Joaquin County General Hospital. Their conditions could not be immediately determined. The crash in Modesto involved a 2000 Isuzu carrying two adults and four children, and a 2012 Toyota containing two adults, California Highway Patrol spokesman James Smith said.

Six people were hurt and one woman was arrested for OUI after an early morning crash Friday on Grafton Street in Worcester, police said. Police said the driver of a Nissan Sentra plowed into the back of a UPS Mack truck around 2 a.m. They said the Nissan was behind the truck, and slammed into the back of it when the UPS truck stopped. The driver of the Nissan did not appear to have hit the brakes before the crash, police said. Worcester firefighters were needed to extricate the driver, who was pinned inside the car. Police said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers said the pilot of an ultralight plane was killed in a crash in Marion County today. The KHP identified the pilot as former Kansas Representative Donald Dahl. Officials say the plane went down in a pond just before 1:45 p.m. about two miles south of Hillsboro. Dahl, 69, was the only person on board. The accident is under investigation.

A pilot parachuted out of a small plane before it crashed on Interstate 89 in Vermont on Friday afternoon. Vermont State Police said the pilot, the plane's only occupant, sustained minor injuries after parachuting out of the plane before it crashed on on the highway in Highgate, Vermont just after 12 p.m. Friday. The pilot parachuted out before the crash and landed in a tree. Emergency crews were able to get the pilot down.
