Investigators have identified the man struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Tuscaloosa Thursday afternoon as a local 21-year-old man.

Sgt. Dale Phillips, the commander of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit, said the victim was Cecil Dillon Ross, who was struck by the train and killed around 1 p.m. Thursday.

Phillips said witnesses reported that Ross was wearing headphones while walking down the track and may have never heard the train coming.

Dothan police say an elderly woman is dead after being hit by a motor vehicle.

According to a press release officers arrived at the 3200 block of Fortner Street where they found an unresponsive woman lying on the side of the road. The driver of the vehicle was also there and appeared to be unharmed.

The victim, identified as 71-year-old Darlene Dean, was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries from the collision.

A Kimberly woman was killed and her teen daughter injured in a Sunday night crash in Blount County.

The Alabama State Troopers identified the victim as Polly Maria Franklin, 40. Authorities said she was a passenger in a 2006 Honda driven by the 18-year-old girl.

They were traveling on Alabama 79 about 7:45 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway about three miles north of Cleveland and struck a tree. Troopers said Franklin was pronounced dead on the scene.

The bodies of two people, including a teenager, were found Wednesday in plane wreckage in a swamp here.

The victims have been identified as Dean Legidakes, 67, and Marli McManus, 15.

The Great Lakes 2T1 bi-plane that they were on went down in a deeply wooded swamp area about 1½ miles northeast of the Shields Airport in Lillian, Baldwin County Sheriff's Office Capt. Steve Arthur said.

Legidakes and McManus left Ferguson airfield in Pensacola, Fla., at about 10 a.m. Wednesday to go sightseeing, Arthur said.

A 26-year-old man died early today after a multi-car crash Sunday night on an interstate in Hoover.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Derick Brian Arbaugh. Arbaugh lived in the Shoal Run area off of U.S. 280.

The crash happened at 6:24 p.m. on Interstate 65 southbound at U.S. 31. Authorities said Arbaugh was entering onto I-65 from U.S. 31 when he lost control of his Mercedes and spun sideways in the southbound lane of traffic.

An oncoming Nissan Pathfinder broadsided Arbaugh's sedan. Two other vehicles also were involved.

A 42-year-old woman walking home from work was killed when a utility van jumped the curb, striking her and another pedestrian.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office today identified the victim as Tina Faye Oliver. Authorities said she lived not far from where she was killed.

Her sister, Barbara Oliver, was at the home the two shared resting before going to work herself. She got a phone call about a terrible accident on Bessemer Road.

Troopers say a single-vehicle crash Sunday, has claimed the life of a Calera man.

According to a press release around 7:27 p.m., 30-year-old Justin McDowell was killed when the 2006 Mercedes Benz he was driving left the roadway and overturned.

The crash occurred on U.S. 80 at the 100 mile marker, one mile east of Dallas County.

No other details are being released at this time as the investigation continues.
