Authorities identify pedestrian killed Thursday in Ensley
A 42-year-old woman walking home from work was killed when a utility van jumped the curb, striking her and another pedestrian.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office today identified the victim as Tina Faye Oliver. Authorities said she lived not far from where she was killed.
Her sister, Barbara Oliver, was at the home the two shared resting before going to work herself. She got a phone call about a terrible accident on Bessemer Road.
"I was praying all the way there that it wasn't my sister,'' she said. "But then they said McDonald's uniform...and I knew she would have been home before then."
Oliver had just left her job at McDonald's in Five Points West. She was walking along Bessemer Road, at Terrace R, in Ensley about 4:30 p.m. Thursday when the accident happened.
An eastbound van lost control, went over the curb, hit Oliver and another pedestrian and then crashed into a pole.Oliver was pinned underneath the van, and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the other pedestrian and the van driver, both men, were injured. Authorities don't believe there was another car involved in the wreck.
