The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating whether a WFSB TV station employee violated agency regulations when he flew a drone over the scene of a fatal car crash on Feb. 1.

An FAA spokesman said the agency is not yet releasing details about its investigation.

Hartford police say that use of the drone by the WFSB employee violated an FAA regulation that prohibits the use of drones for commercial purposes.

Klarn DePalma, WFSB vice president and general manager, said the station doesn't own or use drones.

Kansas City police on Tuesday identified a passenger who died Saturday in a wreck near Westport as Alan L. Espenlaub, 66, of Kansas City.

Espenlaub was a back-seat passenger in a car struck by a sport-utility vehicle at 43rd Street and Belleview Road about 3:30 p.m. The SUV driver said his vehicle slid on wet pavement, causing him to run a stop sign and collide with the passenger side of the southbound Honda Accord.

A Martinsville man died as a result of a car crash in Johnson County over the weekend, according to the Johnson County sheriff.

Joseph Carter, 29, drove off the road, over-corrected and hit a tree around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report. The crash happened near County roads 600 North and 200 East, which is near Whiteland.

It wasn’t clear what caused the crash. No other vehicles were involved. There was sleet or freezing rain coming down at the time of the incident.

A 73-year-old man was critically injured when he was hit by a car after getting off of a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus in the city’s Bayview District on Saturday evening, police said Monday.

The collision was reported at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday on Hudson Avenue near Reuel Court, a police spokesman said.

The car that struck the victim was a Dodge caravan driven by a 33-year-old woman, police said.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with broken legs and a head wound—injuries that are considered life-threatening, according to police.

A Gibsonburg, Ohio, man was killed and two people were injured in a two-car crash on Saturday near Bowling Green, the State Highway Patrol said.

David Kaseman, 58, who was driving one of the cars on Rt. 105 east of the I-75 interchange, was pronounced dead at Wood County Hospital, according to the patrol’s Bowling Green post.

The driver of the other vehicle, William Beard Jr., 74, of Pemberville, and his wife, Judy Beard, 73, were taken to Wood County Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Maryland State Police say a crash on the Baltimore Beltway has killed an elderly woman.

Police responded to the two-car collision Saturday evening on the inner loop of Interstate 695 at Park Heights Avenue. Police say a Toyota Camry collided with a Nissan Rogue.

Police say the driver of the Toyota lost control, striking a concrete barrier twice on the right side of the roadway before crossing the highway and crashing into the barrier on the left shoulder. A passing motorist stopped and helped the drive and passenger out of the car as it caught fire.

One man died Saturday afternoon during a fatal car accident near Sacramento State University, authorities said.

The driver of a Chevrolet Corvette, later identified as Gerald F. Ryder 83, was killed about 3:45 p.m. when his car collided with a sport-utility vehicle at College Town Drive and La Riviera Drive, said a Sacramento Police Officer. The Corvette driver’s name was withheld pending notification of kin.

The driver of the SUV is unhurt. No other people were involved in the accident.

State police say two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash in Hagerstown.

Police say the driver, 31-year-old Shawn Minnick of Hagerstown, lost control of her BMW coupe around 2 a.m. Saturday on Cearfoss Pike. Police say Minnick ran off the road while trying to pass another car. Her car hit a utility pole, a utility box and a boulder before coming to rest on its roof.

Minnick and her male passenger, 29-year-old Courtney Bridge, were killed.

A Davis man was killed in a crash early Saturday morning, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Hunter Watson, 20, was driving west on Gateway Road two miles west of Ardmore Saturday morning when his pickup truck ran off the road and struck a light pole. Troopers said Watson was driving drunk at the time of the crash.

Watson was pinned in the truck for about an hour before the Lone Grove Fire Department pulled him from the wreck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vermont State Police say a skier has died in a crash at the Sugarbush Ski Resort in Warren.

The 19-year-old female, later identified as Kendra Bowers, was skiing on Saturday morning with family and friends at Mount Ellen when she lost control, went off the trail and hit a trail sign.

Police say the crash happened at the intersection of the Lower Rim Run and Lower FIS trails.
