Birmingham, ALNorthport resident Kenneth Dewayne Blanchard was walking on Interstate 59 after getting a flat early Thursday morning. He died when he was hit by a tractor-trailer whose driver fled the scene. The truck is believed to be a dark brown Freightliner Classic with a model year between 1991 and 2002. Nashville, TNA child has died and his mother was hurt in a hit-and-run collision allegedly caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 in Smyrna on Thursday afternoon.
The crash was reported about 1:30 p.m. at mile marker 66, near Sam Ridley Parkway. The child, his mother and his sister were outside their car changing a flat tire when they were struck.
The suspected driver, identified as 33-year-old Tina L. Wilson, kept driving in a Chevrolet Cavalier after the collision, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Atlanta, GAPolice are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed one man and critically injured another man as they helped change a tire on a metro Atlanta freeway.
DeKalb County police say two women had called the men to help them change the tire when the men were struck by a pickup. It happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on westbound Interstate 20, near Panola Road.
Police said a pickup truck they said was not maintaining its lane struck the men and kept driving. A second car followed the truck until the driver was pulled over.
