Two men were killed while changing a tire Wednesday morning at mile marker 72 on westbound Interstate 70 in Garfield County near Parachute. A 2002 Ford F250 pick-up pulling a cattle hauler was on the right shoulder of the highway due to a flat tire. Another vehicle with David Moore Jr.,19, of Clifton and Timothy Randall, 30, of Grand Junction stopped to assist, and the men were on the left side of the trailer changing the tire when they were struck by a box truck. Both men died at the scene of the crash. The truck driver, Derek Thompson, 30, of Grand Junction was not hurt.

Northport resident  Kenneth Dewayne Blanchard was walking on Interstate 59 after getting a flat early Thursday morning. He died when he was hit by a tractor-trailer whose driver fled the scene. Lorenza Simmons told dispatchers she was trying to avoid hitting the SUV in front of her when she swerved off the road and hit Kevin Johns, who was rushed to Delray Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 1:09 p.m. Johns served the city of Fort Lauderdale for 29 years. Visitation is set for Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Sanctuary Church in Fort Lauderdale at 1400 North Federal Highway. His funeral will be held at the same location Tuesday at 10 a.m.

A man is in critical condition and a woman is arrested after an early-morning car wreck in Moore, police said. Officers rushed to a neighborhood off North Janeway Avenue and NW 2nd Street a little after 4 a.m. to find a man seriously injured. Police say the man was rolling a tire in the middle of the road when he was hit, and was thrown 200 feet. The victim's friend says he was visiting his girlfriend and helping to fix a car. According to police, alcohol was involved. Police say a female passenger fought with officers and slipped out of her handcuffs. She was arrested on multiple charges.

A child has died and his mother was hurt in a hit-and-run collision allegedly caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 in Smyrna on Thursday afternoon. The crash was reported about 1:30 p.m. at mile marker 66, near Sam Ridley Parkway. The child, his mother and his sister were outside their car changing a flat tire when they were struck. The suspected driver, identified as 33-year-old Tina L. Wilson, kept driving in a Chevrolet Cavalier after the collision, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Tampa Fire Rescue officials say two people were hurt in a two-car crash on Interstate 4 Thursday night. It happened near I-4 eastbound and North 22nd Street. Officials say one car, with a man and woman inside, was stopped on the side of the interstate with a flat tire. Investigators say a second car crashed in to the back of the stopped car, and one of the cars caught fire. Tampa Fire Rescue officials say one person in the stopped car was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. The second person in that car was not hurt.

Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed one man and critically injured another man as they helped change a tire on a metro Atlanta freeway. DeKalb County police say two women had called the men to help them change the tire when the men were struck by a pickup. It happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on westbound Interstate 20, near Panola Road. Police said a pickup truck they said was not maintaining its lane struck the men and kept driving. A second car followed the truck until the driver was pulled over.
