A man walking in an industrial area was killed Monday after he was run over by a truck at about 3:30 p.m. at Tire Associates in Mankato, Minnesota. The victim was given first aid but was pronounced dead at the scene. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.

26-year-old plumbing contractor Robert Craig of Myersville died after rescued from a collapsed trench at a residential construction site in Mysersville. Craig was buried from his waist down in about 10 feet of rock and dirt for several hours before rescue crews managed to free him, and while he survived the intial collapse, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The accident took place around 10:15 a.m. at the Wake Technical Community College northern campus in Raleigh, when a 40-foot-high pedestrian bridge being built collapsed while concrete was being poured onto one section of it. One worker died, and all four of the injured were brought to the hospital. Their exact conditions are not yet available.

At about 12:55pm, a wall in a townhouse development collapsed, killing Ricardo Ayala-Martinez, trapping three other workers, and injuring one, who was taken to a hospital. It is unclear exactly what caused the collapse, or how many of the trapped workers were injured, and the exact cause of death for Ayala-Martinez is unknown. Check back for updates as more information is released.

A freak accident at a construction site on Monday killed a Camden County, New Jersey, man after he was struck by a tape measure that fell 50 stories from a high-rise under construction in Jersey City, N.J. Gary Anderson, 58, of Somerdale, New Jersey, was delivering drywall to the downtown construction site about 8:40 a.m. when the tape measure fell off the belt of a worker on the top of the building.  Anderson was not wearing a hard hat but had one inside his truck. He had stopped to lean into the open window of a vehicle to speak to someone when he was struck by the tape measure.

The accident happened just after 7 p.m. Friday in the 3600 block of Oxford Reily Road in Butler County. The men fell from a 150-foot water tower they were painting when their scaffolding gave way, dropping them approximately 100 feet to the ground. The accident is under investigation.

According to the Milton-Madison Bridge Project, crews closed the bridge around 2 a.m. Tuesday after a steel bearing, about four-feet in diameter, dislodged between the bridge and a pier. The project manager closed the bridge believing it is unsafe to cross. The worker was not seriously injured. The bridge was due to be reduced to one lane on Thursday and to close completely on Friday for about a week. Now, the bridge will remain closed until the new bridge is slid into place, a process that is scheduled to begin on Thursday.

Two contractors doing maintenance work suffered burns when they were splashed with acid Monday at the Tesoro Corp. refinery near Martinez, an accident that occurred in the same processing unit where two workers were burned last month, officials said. Sulfuric acid spilled on the two workers at 10:50 a.m. in the latest incident at the Golden Eagle Refinery at 150 Solano Way, said a Contra Costa County hazardous materials specialist.

Investigations are under way after a Washington Township man was crushed in an industrial accident in Shelby Township today. Erik Deighton, 23, was killed at Colonial Plastics, according to township police and a company statement. “The Roberts’ family and employees of the Colonial Group Companies mourn the tragic death of their fellow employee and friend, Erik Deighton,” according to the company statement from Cheryl Paschall. “The company is conducting an investigation as to the cause of the accident. We have no further information at this time.”

Eight workers were seriously injured in a construction accident while working on a decrepit Brooklyn building Wednesday afternoon, officials and witnesses said. The men fell from the third floor to the first floor of 1916 Prospect Place about 1 p.m., Fire Department officials said. One neighbor says he warned the workers the house was unsound before they walked in Wednesday. Some of the injured were taken to Kings County Hospital, a department spokesman said. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
