Erik Deighton, 23, killed in an industrial accident after a stamping machine crushes him at Colonial Plastics in Shelby Township, Michigan

Investigations are under way after a Washington Township man was crushed in an industrial accident in Shelby Township today. Erik Deighton, 23, was killed at Colonial Plastics, according to township police and a company statement. “The Roberts’ family and employees of the Colonial Group Companies mourn the tragic death of their fellow employee and friend, Erik Deighton,” according to the company statement from Cheryl Paschall. “The company is conducting an investigation as to the cause of the accident. We have no further information at this time.” Township police said the 23-year-old was trying to clear an obstruction from a press machine when the machine cycled to stamp a part and crushed him about 6 a.m., police said. Police and fire personnel found him dead when they arrived at the auto supplier in the 51000 block of Filomena Drive near 23 Mile and Schoenherr.
