At about 4:15 a.m., Timothy Bolton, who has now been arrested for suspected DUI, was driving on I-5 when he lost control and crashed into a sign and a pole. He then exited his vehicle and began to run down the freeway. As he was in the roadway, a pickup truck suddenly swerved in an attempt to avoid the man, but crashed and caused a pileup involving several more vehicles. One person died in that pileup, and two others were hospitalized. A woman, who was a passenger in Bolton's car, was also taken to the hospital. Check back for updates on this developing story.

A driver has died at the scene of a crash that closed Interstate 5 in Thornton for most of the early morning Friday. All southbound lanes of I-5 were reopened around 6 a.m. California Highway Patrol officials said that the crash began when a car traveling in the northbound lanes of I-5 collided with a big rig. The big rig then crashed through the center divide, hit two other cars and then landed across all southbound lanes. The wrong-way driver died at the scene, CHP says.

A young woman died and a man was jailed after a suspected DUI accident along Interstate 5 near Westley Thursday afternoon, authorities said. According to the California Highway Patrol, officer J. Peregoy was patrolling Interstate 5 when he got a call regarding a brown Lexus being driven recklessly in the area, possibly with some kind of domestic violence going on inside the car.

Northbound Interstate 5 at Laguna Boulevard in Elk Grove was closed Wednesday morning due to a crash involving a pickup and two large trucks. The crashes occurred around 4 a.m. Spilled petroleum products must be cleaned up before all lanes can be re-opened on that stretch of I-5. Minor injuries were reported. In addition, at 7:30 a.m., traffic was snarled at the ramp from northbound Highway 99 to westbound Highway 50 due to a jackknifed big rig. The transition ramp re-opened at about 8.   What’s different about a truck accident?
