A 37-year-old man died in a hit-and-run crash on northbound Interstate 95 sometime between Friday night Saturday morning in St. Johns County. The victim’s body was found just before 7 a.m. near the Florida 207 exit. A 2006 Ford E250 van was disabled on the shoulder of the freeway when a passing vehicle collided with the van. That passing vehicle then hit Rafhel A. Mahese of Davie, who died on the scene. It appears that Mahese got out of the van after it became disabled and was standing near the front fender when the passing vehicle collided with the van and Mahese.

A Road Ranger who had stopped to assist a motorist on Interstate 95 was hit and killed early Sunday by a car which then fled the scene. The Road Ranger was standing on the east shoulder of the northbound lanes of I-95 south of Palmetto Park Road, speaking with the driver of a white Dodge Charger, when he was hit at 1 a.m. The Road Ranger was identified as Arnold Metellus, 59, of Boynton Beach. The suspect vehicle fled without stopping. It is described as a silver or gray SUV-type vehicle that exited at Palmetto Park Road. The vehicle is believed to have front and right side damage.

Lorenza Simmons told dispatchers she was trying to avoid hitting the SUV in front of her when she swerved off the road and hit Kevin Johns, who was rushed to Delray Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 1:09 p.m. Johns served the city of Fort Lauderdale for 29 years. Visitation is set for Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Sanctuary Church in Fort Lauderdale at 1400 North Federal Highway. His funeral will be held at the same location Tuesday at 10 a.m.

A crash sends two people to the hospital including a Florida Highway Patrol trooper crash Wednesday morning.  Both troopers were in their vehicles at the time of the crash. One of the troopers, Colise Frazier, is hurt and complained of back pain and numbness to his extremities.  Jessica Nash, who veered off the road is being treated for life-threatening injuries, said FHP.

 A 27-year-old man was killed late Friday afternoon when the wheel of a tractor-trailer detached, flew through the air and struck the victim's car on Interstate 95 in St. Johns County. The tractor-trailer, driven by 43-year-old Michael Hunter of Daytona Beach, was traveling southbound on I-95 when the right wheel assembly separated from its rear axle. Harper was taken to Flagler Hospital, where he died.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash between a bus and a semi-truck that killed two adults and sent six people to the hospital. More information will be updated as it becomes available.

The family of a man who was killed by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 95 on Saturday has more questions than answers about what led up to the deadly crash. Norman Mello, 42, was headed south on I-95 on his motorcycle Saturday evening. That’s when Florida Highway Patrol said Varissa Vargas, 20, was driving the wrong way in the express lanes between State Road 836 (Dolphin Expressway) and Highway 112.

A 52-year-old Daytona Beach man was killed in a crash on Interstate 95 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP said Allen Blank was killed in the wreck, which occurred around midnight Wednesday on I-95 near Indian River Boulevard in Edgewater.

Troopers said Blank lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a tree.

The crash is under investigation.

The names of those killed or injured in two crashes Saturday along Interstate 95 have been released by the Florida Highway Patrol. According to FHP reports: Barbara Carol Pennington, 50, who was driving a Freight-liner semi tractor/trailer southbound on I-95. She failed to stop for stopped traffic, hitting several vehicles causing a chain reaction of several collisions. Pennington died at the scene. Nilda Valentine Rivera, 41, was traveling in a 2013 Chevrolet Spark when she was killed as a result of the collisions.
