Road Rangers are employed by the Florida Department of Transportation to provide free highway assistance services to motorists and to improve safety on the highway.
A Road Ranger who had stopped to assist a motorist on Interstate 95 was hit and killed early Sunday by a car which then fled the scene. The Road Ranger was standing on the east shoulder of the northbound lanes of I-95 south of Palmetto Park Road, speaking with the driver of a white Dodge Charger, when he was hit at 1 a.m. The Road Ranger was identified as Arnold Metellus, 59, of Boynton Beach. The suspect vehicle fled without stopping. It is described as a silver or gray SUV-type vehicle that exited at Palmetto Park Road. The vehicle is believed to have front and right side damage.
