A suspect was in police custody after being chased by police along busy highways into the heart of Miami on Tuesday.

The man, identified by police as 47-year-old Guillermo Alvarez-Mendez, drove the wrong way on busy streets and crashed what authorities said was a stolen van into one car head-on at Southwest 16th Avenue and Southwest 1st Street. After the crash, he took off running into the streets of Little Havana, and at one point climbed over rooftops as he fled through the neighborhood.

A woman was flown to Delray Medical Center with serious injuries after a three-car wreck in suburban Lake Worth, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said.

The wreck happened just before 7 p.m. in Lake Worth Road’s 7000 block, between Jog Road and Florida’s Turnpike, said a Fire Rescue spokesman.

One car struck a pole and another a guard rail.

The woman was flown to Delray Medical Center by Trauma Hawk.

24-year-old Patrick Tahaney of Windermere was driving his 2006 Dodge Charger northbound on Turkey Lake Road when, for an unknown reason, troopers said he lost control of his car and went off the road.

He traveled through several yards, struck a fence and two trees and died at the scene, troopers said.

Chad Siplin, 25, a passenger inside the Charger, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Ryan Siefker, 22, another passenger suffered minor injuries.

Police are looking for two drivers who struck a pedestrian in Hollywood in a crash that was caught on camera. The incident happened just after 8 p.m. Monday at the intersection of State Road 7/U.S. 441 and Hollywood Boulevard, police said. The victim was struck by a white older model Ford Expedition or SUV, then struck by a silver Hyundai Elantra. Both of the vehicles fled the scene, police said. Video of the incident released by police Wednesday shows the moments just before the first impact. It also shows the Ford at a nearby gas station.

The Florida Highway Patrol arrested a driver in an overnight hit-and-run crash on Interstate 95 South. A driver hit a car at about 1:15 a.m. Monday on I-95, just north of Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach. FHP said no one was seriously hurt, but the truck connected to the crash was later found. The driver was arrested and charged with DUI and fleeing the scene of an accident. FHP has not released the name of the person facing charges.

Police say a driver who sped away from an officer died in a crash minutes later on Orlando's John Young Parkway. The officer approached the vehicle Sunday evening because it was stopped in a turn lane near Interstate 4. Police say the man drove away when the officer asked him to get out of the vehicle. The man was not being chased by police officers when he crashed into the back of a minivan. The vehicle overturned. The driver, later identified as Alex Gomez-Guerrero, 20, was killed and some of the occupants of the minivan were taken to the hospital for treatment.

A driver was arrested on DUI charges after he crashed his truck into two cars and a house in Cooper City Sunday night, authorities said.

Matthew Lingwood, 28, was arrested after the crash at 10806 S. Saratoga Drive, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

"Right now the suspect is facing a host of charges including three counts of DUI with property damage, one count of DUI on a first offense, four counts of DUI with serious injury, one count of reckless driving and an additional count of possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver," a BSO spokesman said.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed an eight month old child and injured six others. It happened just before 2:30 Saturday morning on U.S. 17 in Jacksonville.

Florida Highway patrol says 25 year old Preston Momin was driving a 2008 Land Rover was traveling southbound on U.S. 17 with four passengers.

As Momin attempted to make a left turn onto I-295 east beltway ramp the truck traveled into the path of a Ford Explorer traveling northbound on U.S. 17.

Interstate 4 in Orlando was closed for hours Friday morning after a tractor-trailer crashed and spilled lumber onto the roadway.

I-4 west was closed at Maitland Boulevard around 2:30 a.m., but two lanes were reopened about four hours later after crews cleared the wood from the interstate. Traffic remained backed up during rush hour, however.

A driver was killed and an officer was seriously injured in a violent crash in Hialeah Friday morning. The crash happened just after 6 a.m. when the police cruiser and silver Nissan SUV collided in the area of W. 8th Avenue and 49th Street, police said. The officer and driver of the Nissan were taken by air to Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition, police said. The driver of the Nissan later died at the hospital. The officer was in surgery late Friday morning, police said. Footage showed the police car badly damaged on a sidewalk at the corner of the intersection.
