Eight month old baby killed in Jacksonville crash.
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed an eight month old child and injured six others. It happened just before 2:30 Saturday morning on U.S. 17 in Jacksonville.
Florida Highway patrol says 25 year old Preston Momin was driving a 2008 Land Rover was traveling southbound on U.S. 17 with four passengers.
As Momin attempted to make a left turn onto I-295 east beltway ramp the truck traveled into the path of a Ford Explorer traveling northbound on U.S. 17.
Investigators said Charles Nelson, the driver of the explorer was unable to stop and hit the right side of the Land Rover.
One of the two people inside the Explorer suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to U.F. Health. Of the five people inside the Land Rover, one passenger died, 8 month old Cadin Momin.
The driver and another passenger, Heather Momin, were taken to UF Health with minor injuries. Two other passengers were taken to UF Health with serious injuries.
Officers did not say whether or not the eight month old was restrained, but say everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt. Investigators are waiting to see if alcohol was a factor in the accident.
