Police say Cuca Gilliland died at a hospital shortly after the accident. Alcohol and speed aren't considered to be contributing factors, and both drivers were believed to be wearing seatbelts. No citation was issued.

The plane was registered to Amigos Aviation Services from Arlington, Texas. A cancer patient was being transported to Phoenix, and was killed in the crash along with three medical staff. A National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report says that the plane was refueled with 40 gallons of jet fuel instead of aviation gasoline at the Las Cruces airport before takeoff.
