A 12-year-old Pittsburgh girl who got out of her father’s SUV to pose for photos with a boy after her first date was struck and killed by the vehicle, police said Monday, and her father was charged with DUI.

Police said that Richard Benton, 53, refused field sobriety and breath tests after slurring his words and smelling of alcohol at the scene of the crash around 8 p.m. Sunday. He was arraigned Monday and police said he could face additional charges if they determine he was directly responsible for Shamera Harris’ death.

Homicide-by-vehicle charges have been filed against a Lancaster man following a three-vehicle crash Saturday. According to reports, Carlos R. Garcia, 33, has been charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, accidents involving death while not properly licensed, endangering the welfare of children, reckless driving and driving while under suspension – DUI related. Reports indicate the crash occurred around 1:20 p.m. Saturday on the 1300 block of E. King St., Lancaster, when Garcia struck the rear of another vehicle.

A 45-year-old Canonsburg man was killed and two others were injured in a crash involving a tractor-trailer and two cars on Interstate 70 south in South Strabane Township on Saturday afternoon, officials said. Brian J. Anselmino was driving east when a car traveling west lost control, crossed the median and hit Anselmino’s car head-on around 1 p.m. in Washington County, officials said. A passenger in Anselmino’s car was taken to Pittsburgh Hospital. Two other vehicles were involved in the crash. I-70 was closed in both directions between mile marker 20 and 21 after the crash, officials said.

Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened early Thursday morning on Pittsburgh's South Side.

The fatal accident at South 29th and East Carson streets was first reported shortly after 4:50 a.m., according to Allegheny County 911 dispatchers.

One car hit a building and was heavily damaged. Two people were taken to the hospital, where one of them died.

The person who died has not been identified yet.

Police have not yet determined the cause of crash.

A multi-vehicle crash shutdown all northbound lanes of the Blue Route in Delaware County for several hours Thursday morning.

The crash happened at about 5:15 a.m. along I-476 northbound at the off-ramp for Route 3.

The crash involved four vehicles, including a Pennsylvania State Trooper cruiser with two Troopers inside.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the Troopers were initially called to the scene for a one-car crash. The cruiser was pulled to the side of the road with its emergency lights on.

State police said a woman and her 2-year-old son died when their car collided head-on with a pickup truck that was hauling a trailer Thursday in South Huntingdon Township. The deadly crash on Route 981 happened just before 7 a.m., according to state police. Jillian Trayter, 31, was headed north on Route 981 at a high rate of speed when she went into the opposite lane on a bend and hit the oncoming truck, a State Trooper said. "We wouldn't say anything excessive or anything like that, to the point where it would be reckless or anything like that, but a high rate of speed," police said.

A chain-reaction crash involving an estimated 50 vehicles continued to close the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 in western Pennsylvania, though eastbound lanes in the same area have reopened.

The 13-mile eastbound stretch between the Clearfield and Phillipsburg exits in Clearfield County reopened about 10 a.m. The westbound lanes were expected to remain closed until early Wednesday afternoon.

A senior airman was killed in a crash in Philadelphia on Tuesday morning.

Around 4 a.m., 26-year-old Victor Quach died in a vehicle accident on I-95 North near Girard Avenue in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia.

Quach was stationed at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and was assigned to the 436th Civil Engineer Squadron as a Fuel and Water Maintenance technician.

Twelve people were hospitalized Monday in two crashes involving SEPTA's Route 84 bus line.

In the first, 10 people were hospitalized after a minivan ran a red light in Frankford and crashed into two vehicles, including a bus, about 10 a.m., police said.

The minivan was traveling north on Torresdale Avenue when it struck a vehicle traveling east on Bridge Street, a Sgt. of the Accident Investigation District said. The impact pushed the minivan into a Route 84 bus.

The bus driver was uninjured, and the bus suffered minor damage, Rossa said.

Officials say a car carrying five people left the roadway a crashed into a home in Manheim Township, Lancaster County.

The accident happened just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday at 45 Toll Gate Station.

The Eden fire Chief says the car smashed into the house, taking out numerous walls and ending up in the master bedroom.

The home was unoccupied at the time.

The Lancaster County Rescue Task Force was called in to secured the building, but due to severe structural damage the home was condemned by Manheim Township Code Compliance officers.
