A speeding motorist crashed head-on into an on-duty sheriff's deputy on a rain-slicked Alpine road early Thursday, sending the lawman to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said. The two-car crash on the 3900 block of Willows Road near Viejas Casino & Resort occurred about 3:20 a.m., according to a San Diego County sheriff's Lt. The deputy was traveling westbound when the eastbound motorist lost control of his speeding vehicle and crossed over a center divider, striking the deputy's car head-on.

Two drivers were injured Tuesday night in a head-on collision on state Route 94 near Dulzura, and one was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said. The crash occurred about 7:50 p.m. west of Honey Springs Road. Both lanes of Route 94 were closed for a short time during the investigation.

A 23-year-old Brockport man died today after his car crashed head-on with a school bus on Ridge Road just after 7 a.m., Orleans County Sheriff’s officials said. Daniel L. Hollaert Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt collided with the bus in the 16600 block of Ridge Road [State Route 104] near Route 237 North. Hollaert, who was eastbound when the crash occurred, had to be extricated by firefighters.

Authorities in northwestern Wisconsin say two vehicles collided head-on, killing both drivers. The collision happened Friday about 5:45 p.m. near the village of Rock Falls. Dunn County deputies say one of the vehicles appears to have been across the center line when the impact occurred. The victims were identified as 19-year-old Kimberley E. Kresen of Eau Claire and 62-year-old Joyce J. Dawson of Rock Falls. They were both pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers were the only occupants in their vehicles.

Two cars crashed head-on in northwestern Minnesota, leaving both drivers dead, authorities said. The collision in Norman County occurred shortly after 2:10 p.m. Thursday on Hwy. 32 north of Gary, according to the State Patrol. Killed were James E. Bateson, 66, of Gary, and Doris J. Hanson, 76, of Brooks, Minn. The crash happened when a southbound car driven by Hanson swerved into the northbound lane and struck Bateson’s car, the patrol added. The two-lane highway’s surface was dry at the time, the patrol said.

A Chambersburg woman died in a head-on collision along the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 this morning in Southampton Township, Franklin County, state police said. The victim was identified as Ashley D. Brechbiel, 26, no address given, according to police. Troopers said Brechbiel was traveling north on Interstate 81 just after 2 a.m. in her 1993 Dodge Dakota truck, when she left the roadway, crossed the grassy median and entered the southbound lanes near Exit 24, the exit for Route 696.

81-year-old Harold Short of Farwell died in a two-vehicle crash in Clare County's Surrey Township. A head-on crash involving a semi and another vehicle killed one person in Shelby County this afternoon. The crash occurred around 3:50 p.m. on Ind. 44, near Old Franklin Road. Authorities suspect that the passenger vehicle and semi were traveling in opposite directions, when the driver of the passenger vehicle heading west drove into the direction of the eastbound semi. The passenger vehicle’s driver, who has not been identified, was killed. The semi driver was not injured.

New Hampshire State Police say a driver died after experiencing a ‘‘medical event’’ and colliding with an oncoming vehicle. Police are still investigating the collision, which happened at about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday on Route 3 in Columbia. Police said a driver heading northbound on Route 3 crossed the center line and struck a pickup truck head on. Their investigation indicates the car driver experienced a medical event, causing the vehicle to go into the other lane. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

A 26-year-old Rhode Island woman has died after crashing into a school bus in Stonington, police said. It happened just before 7:30 a.m. Monday, police said. According to police, Sarah Delano of Westerly, R.I., was driving westbound on Pequot Trail in Stonington when her car crossed the center line and collided with a school bus driving in the opposite direction. Delano died at the scene. Police said no passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the crash. It’s not clear if the driver, 69-year-old Jane Toth of Pawcatuck, was injured.
