A blind pedestrian was crossing a road at the intersection of East Mississippi Avenue and South Havana Street when he was hit by a 67-year-old woman. The woman was traveling northbound on South Havana Street and had the right of way at the time. The man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. At the time of the accident it was raining and the pedestrian was intoxicated and not crossing in a crosswalk.
A car driven by a 22-year-old man from Gladwin rear-ended a horse-drawn buggy containing two adults and seven children. Five people inside the buggy were transported to a local hospital for their injuries. These included both 34-year-old adults, and 3 children ages 10, 5, and 8 months. The horse was also severely injured and had to be euthanized. Foggy weather conditions and alcohol were considered main factors in this accident.
