A four-vehicle crash with at least two minor injuries brought commuters to a crawl Thursday morning on Bangerter Highway.
The 8 a.m. accident closed down two northbound lanes for about an hour on a West Valley City stretch of the highway, near 4000 South and 3800 West.
A West Valley City police Lt. said the accident began when a red pickup truck rear-ended a car, triggering more crashes involving another, red pickup which collided with the same car again, forcing it to sideswipe a second passenger car.
A 33-year-old Salt Lake City man was behind bars Friday on suspicion of multiple felony misdemeanor charges after he allegedly fled an attempted traffic stop, crashed into a car and then tried to run away.
Police say that when an officer attempted to pull the suspect over for speeding, he accelerated through a red light at 900 West and 1700 South about 4:45 p.m. Thursday and collided with another vehicle. The suspect then jumped from the car and attempted to flee on foot, but was captured a short distance away, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Four people were injured, one critically, in a late Monday night crash on Interstate 15 in Juab County.
The Utah Highway Patrol said the accident occurred about 9 p.m. when a northbound four-door sedan — possibly trying to avoid hitting wildlife on the road — went out of control and struck a concrete bridge railing near mile post 207 and the Mills Exit.
The car rolled, landing on it top and coming to rest on the bridge, blocking both travel lanes.
Police are searching for several juveniles Friday morning after they fled from police and crashed a car.
Police say an officer say the car speeding down 3800 South near 2200 West just before 5:00am. The officer tried to pull the car over, but the car sped away and crashed into a pole. At that point, West Valley Police say three people jumped out of the car and took off.
West Valley City Officers say the three in the vehicle were likely teenagers. Police set up a containment area and are using dogs to search for the juveniles.
One suspect was in custody and another remained at large Thursday after an overnight high-speed chase that began after the robbery of a casino in West Wendover and ended with a crash in south Salt Lake County.
A Utah Highway Patrol spokesman said at least two male suspects held up the Montego Bay Casino on the Utah-Nevada line 11:20 p.m. Wednesday. West Wendover, Nev., police alerted UHP and police in Tooele and Salt Lake counties to be on the lookout for the getaway vehicle, last seen heading east on Interstate 80.
A five-vehicle crash in west Salt Lake City injured two women, both of whom had to be extricated from the wreckage before being transported to the hospital early Wednesday afternoon.
A Salt Lake City police Capt. said the accident at 700 West Redwood Road occurred just before 1 p.m. when a southbound car ran a red light and collided with two eastbound cars as they entered the intersection.
Two more vehicles crashed in chain-reaction accidents immediately afterward.
Wednesday afternoon Layton police responded to an accident on I-15 that left the freeway closed for a short time.
A car reportedly hit the median and then bounced back into traffic. The car then slid beneath a semi-trailer and became wedged as the semi continued to move for a short distance.
A male passenger was air lifted from the scene in critical condition. Two other females were transported by ground, but no word on their condition.
Two people were hurt after a Salt Lake City Police chase ended in a crash.
Police were handling an unrelated robbery near 900 S. State St. Monday afternoon when a 23-year-old man with a misdemeanor warrant took off in a stolen vehicle, said a police detective. Officers pursued him, but he ended up crashing into a vehicle, which struck a second vehicle in the intersection of 900 W. 600 North.
The man also struck a power pole before the stolen SUV wound up on its side north of the intersection.
