A Friday morning auto-pedestrian accident in West Valley City claimed the life of a 39-year-old man.
The accident occurred about 6:45 a.m. at 2700 West and 4270 South as the victim, who worked at an area grocery store, was crossing east to west.
A southbound compact car, believed to be traveling at 40 mph, struck the victim just as he stepped into traffic, said a WVCPD Lt.
Witnesses, police officers and then paramedics attempted CPR, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene from massive head and chest trauma, Taylor said.
A woman, Rosa Merino, was struck by a pickup truck in a Provo crosswalk Wednesday morning later died from her injuries at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
Provo police said the accident occurred at 6:20 a.m. as the woman was crossing westbound at the intersection of 700 N. University Avenue, about three blocks from Brigham Young University. It was still dark when the 1985 GMC pickup hit her.
A Hyrum woman died Tuesday in a crash near the mouth of Sardine Canyon.
Shortly before 9 a.m., Christina C. Petersen was traveling west on Mt. Sterling Road (6800 South) near Wellsville, when she turned south onto Highway 89/91 and pulled in front of a northbound truck coming down the canyon, said the Utah Highway Patrol. The truck struck her partially head-on.
Petersen, 60, died at the hospital.
The driver of the truck, who UHP did not identify, was taken to Logan Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A man was rescued after crashing his car into the Jordan River near 500 North and Redwood Road Sunday morning.
The Salt Lake City Police Department says the man was driving on 500 North when he hit a truck and went over a curb.
Police estimate the vehicle flew about 25 feet in the air before it landed on its side in the Jordan River.
Police say the man climbed out of the car and sat on the partially submerged vehicle until a rescue team from the Salt Lake City Fire Department was able to help him to shore.
