A Friday morning auto-pedestrian accident in West Valley City claimed the life of a 39-year-old man.

The accident occurred about 6:45 a.m. at 2700 West and 4270 South as the victim, who worked at an area grocery store, was crossing east to west.

A southbound compact car, believed to be traveling at 40 mph, struck the victim just as he stepped into traffic, said a WVCPD Lt.

Witnesses, police officers and then paramedics attempted CPR, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene from massive head and chest trauma, Taylor said.

A semi pulling a box trailer was traveling westbound Friday on I-84, when it experienced some mechanical issues. The driver pulled to the right side of the road partially blocking the I-84 on-ramp from Mountain Green. A Honda Accord, was traveling west on the I-84 on-ramp, when for an unknown reason the driver of the Honda did not see the semi and crashed into the rear of the semi-trailer. A medical helicopter was called to the scene. The westbound lanes of I-84 were shut down for approximately 30 min while the helicopter was on scene.

A woman, Rosa Merino, was struck by a pickup truck in a Provo crosswalk Wednesday morning later died from her injuries at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.

Provo police said the accident occurred at 6:20 a.m. as the woman was crossing westbound at the intersection of 700 N. University Avenue, about three blocks from Brigham Young University. It was still dark when the 1985 GMC pickup hit her.

A Hyrum woman died Tuesday in a crash near the mouth of Sardine Canyon.

Shortly before 9 a.m., Christina C. Petersen was traveling west on Mt. Sterling Road (6800 South) near Wellsville, when she turned south onto Highway 89/91 and pulled in front of a northbound truck coming down the canyon, said the Utah Highway Patrol. The truck struck her partially head-on.

Petersen, 60, died at the hospital.

The driver of the truck, who UHP did not identify, was taken to Logan Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Near white-out conditions northeastern Utah’s Highway 89 are suspected to have contributed to a head-on crash that killed a woman and sent at least one other person to the hospital late Monday morning. A Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. said blowing, heavy snowfall made visibility a challenge when the 10:38 a.m. crash occurred on Highway 89, about 5 miles west of Garden City in Rich County. UHP said the woman died at the scene. At least one person in the second vehicle was transported to Logan Regional Hospital in unspecified condition.

41-year-old Joseph Chase of Las Vegas died after crashing his car on I-15 near Beaver Sunday afternoon. The Utah Highway Patrol says the vehicle swerved off the highway, collided with a tree and then flipped, coming to rest on the vehicle's roof. Chase was partially ejected from the car and sustained fatal injuries, according to a press release from UHP. Emergency crews rushed the man to a local hospital but he died shortly after arrival, the release stated. It was a single vehicle accident and Chase was the only occupant in the car. The accident is still under investigation.

Two Union Pacific Trains collided around 9:30 am Wednesday near Ogden Utah. One cargo train carrying mostly grain had 7-8 cars derailed. Both trains were heading westbound. Hazmat crews are trying to contain diesel spilling from the train. Three people have reportedly suffered minor injuries in the accident. Corn was spilled from the cars and only minor injuries were reported. One lane of traffic on I-80 was closed as a precaution and to position a crane to lift the derailed cars.

A man was rescued after crashing his car into the Jordan River near 500 North and Redwood Road Sunday morning.

The Salt Lake City Police Department says the man was driving on 500 North when he hit a truck and went over a curb.

Police estimate the vehicle flew about 25 feet in the air before it landed on its side in the Jordan River.

Police say the man climbed out of the car and sat on the partially submerged vehicle until a rescue team from the Salt Lake City Fire Department was able to help him to shore.

A Utah Department of Public Safety spokesperson released the name of the victim involved in a fatal car accident on U.S. Highway 6 Friday night. Gregory D. Leavitt, 34, of Pleasant Grove died in a fiery collision with a semi-truck, after veering into oncoming traffic near Spanish Fork Canyon, according to a press release. The collision caused the semi-truck to jackknife and spill two trailers full of coal onto the highway. It also caused a brief fire in the cab of the semi-truck, injuring driver David Lee of Orem.

The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a 10-year-old boy died Friday in a snowmobile crash just east of Woodland in Wasatch County, near Highway 35. Officials say the 10-year-old was driving the snowmobile with his father and lost control of snowmobile causing it to roll. The boy suffered fatal injuries while the father sustained only minor injuries. Police say both of them were wearing helmets.
