A driver is accused of smuggling undocumented immigrants through Utah, four of whom died last week when their van rolled off Interstate 70 last week in Grand County. Elvis J. Quintanilla-Vasquez, 36, was driving seven men to Chicago to work for a family member there when the van crashed May 16 about 34 miles west of the Colorado state line, investigators wrote in charges filed in Utah. Four of the men were flung from the van and died.

A woman is in critical condition from a rollover accident around 3:00 a.m. Thursday near Tooele. The accident happened at milepost 64, which is 40 miles west of the Tooele Exit. Utah Highway Patrol Troopers say the woman was driving westbound on I-80 when her car went off the road. The woman over corrected and the car rolled over. She was pinned beneath the vehicle. A medical helicopter was sent to the scene. Utah Highway Patrol says no lanes in the area are blocked at this time.

A Salt Lake City woman who died Wednesday — four days after a South Salt Lake crash that left her on life support — was identified by police on Thursday. Norma "Alishia" Black, 31, of Salt Lake City, was taken off life support about 4 p.m. Wednesday while her mother was by her side, said South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller. The woman was a passenger at about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday in a Chevy Malibu that was traveling north in the southbound lane of 700 West near 3800 South, Keller has said; the lanes jog east there because of road construction.

One person was killed and a half dozen others were injured when the driver of a pickup truck ran a red light in Draper and crashed with other vehicles at about 6:30 p.m. after the pickup truck driver, who was traveling at high speed on Lone Peak Parkway, crossed into the intersection at 12300 South. The truck struck one vehicle, which started a chain reaction that caused five other cars to be hit. The driver of one of the cars was killed at the scene and a minor in that vehicle suffered critical injuries. Four other people received minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Two Salt Lake City police officers were seriously injured Thursday when they were involved in a traffic accident while riding their motorcycles.

Three motorcycle officers were traveling west on 500 South at about 6:10 p.m. when a gray Honda Fit changed lanes between 200 and 300 East and struck two of the bikes, said Detective Cody Lougy.

The two motorcycles crashed as a result of the collision, Lougy said. The two officers were transported to a hospital in serious condition but are expected to recover.

A teenager was in critical condition Wednesday after his vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a home in Salt Lake City Tuesday. Salt Lake City police report that they were called to a home at 532 N. Redwood Road at about 7 p.m. on Tuesday after the boy’s car somehow went off the road and crashed through the house into the living room. No one inside the home was injured, but the driver was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

One person was taken to the hospital Thursday morning after an accident between a car and a motorcycle.

Officials say the Unified Police Department responded to 6200 South 4800 W. around 6:30 a.m.

Details remain unclear but officials say the person on the motorcycle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A 19-year-old Brigham City man — who may have fallen asleep at the wheel — died early Friday morning when his pickup truck rolled on Interstate 15 near Brigham City.

Mitchell Burton died at about 3:30 a.m. when his northbound truck drifted into the left emergency lane and onto a rumble strip, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.

Burton then over-corrected and the truck traveled back across the freeway to the right shoulder, where it rolled once, hitting a sign post.

A Cedar City woman escaped with minor injuries after her vehicle caught fire as a result of a crash Tuesday at 2:23 p.m. on northbound Interstate 15 near mile marker 61.

The woman, identified as Becky Hyde, was driving her 2002 Honda Civic to work at an after school program at Canyon View Middle School when she approached a recreational vehicle towing a car in the outside lane that was moving very slowly.

“It was like it was standing still,” said Hyde.

A Tuesday hit-and-run in Ogden put two men in the hospital and one under arrest.

Around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 2004 Lincoln Ls traveling northbound on Walnut Street crossed Riley Avenue and collided with two motorcycles that were traveling westbound on Riley Avenue. The driver of the Lincoln left the scene of the wreck.
