A 19-year-old Brigham City man — who may have fallen asleep at the wheel — died early Friday morning when his pickup truck rolled on Interstate 15 near Brigham City.

Mitchell Burton died at about 3:30 a.m. when his northbound truck drifted into the left emergency lane and onto a rumble strip, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.

Burton then over-corrected and the truck traveled back across the freeway to the right shoulder, where it rolled once, hitting a sign post.

The truck came to rest upright, and Burton, who apparently was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected, the UHP said.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation, but the UHP said fatigue may have been a factor.

The accident occurred just north of the 1100 South overpass in Brigham City.
