FARMER — One person was killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning on Old N.C. 49 in the Farmer area.

The identity of the lone occupant of the car will not be released until an autopsy and medical examiner’s report are completed, according to Sgt. G.R. Catherwood of the Randolph County office of the N.C. Highway Patrol. Trooper C.R. Azelton is investigating the accident.

A 17-year-old high school senior was killed after her Jeep flipped after going off the side of the road in Monroe.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 17-year-old Samantha Ann Windham was killed in a crash along the 3000-block of Poplin Road just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Troopers say the vehicle went off the side of the road, hit a culvert and flipped over. Windham was partially ejected from the vehicle.

She was not wearing a seatbelt, according to troopers.

Investigators say Windham has just left from a Monroe pizza restaurant.

A Burke County man was killed, and a woman was injured, after the woman became stranded in front of his house late Wednesday night.

According to investigators, Lorrine Vaughn's vehicle ran out of gas around 10 pm along Highway 18, just south of Morganton, in front of 49-year-old David Anderson's home.

Anderson took gas out of his own vehicle and took it out to her car.

Anderson was outside helping the woman when another vehicle came around the corner and hit them.

A roadside memorial grew Wednesday morning on Old Statesville Road, scene of a single-vehicle wreck Tuesday that killed a 4-month-old girl.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the infant was not in a child seat and was being held by a passenger in the back seat, and they accuse the driver of speeding and DWI.

A 25-year-old man is dead after the vehicle he was riding in was hit from behind in southeast Charlotte on Sunday evening.

Early Monday morning, Charlotte police identified the man as Barnette White, Jr.

According to police, White was thrown from a 1999 Toyota 4 Runner after it was hit from behind while turning onto Independence Boulevard near Village Lake Drive. This is along the 7200-block of Independence.

Officers say the wreck occurred around 7:21 p.m.

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials say it may be a while before they know what caused a deadly plane crash in Lincoln County.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the 1971 fixed wing, single-engine plane belonged to James B. Thomas from Denver. Officials say Thomas took off from the Laney Airport just minutes before the crash.

Authorities in Catawba County say Thomas was killed when the plane crashed in a wheat field near Balls Creek School Road in Newton. Investigators say he was the only person on board.

A North Carolina walker was hit and killed by a car on the same stretch of road he was seriously injured on during an identical accident three years ago.

Gary Von Lunsford, 52, was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday night as he walked southbound along Sawmills' US 321-A highway wearing dark clothing.

It came less than 36 months after he was hospitalized in a coma for six weeks after a carbon copy crash in the same spot.

He had walked to see his wife Catherine Lunsford at PD Grocery on Sawmills School Road at 8 p.m., according to News-Topic.

Troopers are asking for the public's help in locating a vehicle that struck and killed a woman in Lincoln County Wednesday.

The incident happened between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m. on Summerow Road at Business Highway 321.

Officials say the woman, later identified as 53-year-old Sherry Kittle, was found deceased on the side of the roadway.

Troopers are looking for a mid-sized white sedan that likely has front end damage and broken headlights.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an accident in the 10100 block of University City Boulevard near East Mallard Creek Church Road around 11:30 Saturday night. Upon arrival, officers found a man in the median. MEDIC pronounced him deceased.

Police say the driver was traveling inbound on University City Boulevard when the pedestrian was struck by her vehicle as the crossed the road. A witness observed the vehicle swerve to avoid hitting the pedestrian, who did not cross the road at a marked crosswalk. The roadway was not illuminated by streetlights.

One man is dead after a motorcycle accident near Charlotte Motor Speedway. It happened around 6:00 Saturday night, on Morehead Road.

Authorities say 25-year-old Carl Judson Parker was pronounced dead on scene. They believe Parker hit two vehicles, before crashing his motorcycle. Those drivers were not injured.

Like dozens of others, Hunter Rogers was tailgating before the race, just feet from the crash site.

"It didn't sound right. All of a sudden I heard the exhaust rev way up," Rogers said.

Rogers ran to help, but he says it was too late.
