For Public Safety: Businesses, firefighters prepare for March 'madness' in Lexington

'LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - "March Madness" has been under way for over a week now. But with the Sweet 16 nearly here, many in Lexington now are preparing for the real madness that comes with the Cats' success in the NCAA tournament.

For many businesses, like the bars along South Limestone near campus, the fan frenzy is a good thing.

"There's a lot - a lot - of beer that goes out of this block this time of year," said Adam Lambert, a bar manager at Tin Roof. "You just kind of have to be like, 'Bring it all in. Leave the truck out back and we'll just grab it when we can.'"

With Big Blue crowds expected for the rest of the tournament, Lambert said he and his staff have done a lot to get ready. Their shelves - stocked with Fireball (a fan favorite, Lambert said) - show it. So does their cooler, brimming with beer.

Yet when there are that many people around watching the game and drinking, there are also a lot of security and safety measures that have to be put into place.

Lambert said they tighten security protocols, such as limiting people leaving and coming back in, and checking people's bags. They also call in extra security to man the doors.'
