Birmingham officer injured, 1 dead in crash

An officer was injured and another person is dead following an early morning wreck. The officer was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment for a gash in his leg and a possible collarbone injury. A woman who was also in the other vehicle was injured. The officer was responding to a call at 12:05 a.m. when his cruiser collided with another car at the 11th Court West and Center Street intersection, according to Lt. Sean Edwards with the Birmingham Police Department.

The victim was identified as Stephen L. Tooson, 45 of Center Point. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:26 a.m.
